The plan was simple: do something bad enough to get expelled from school but not so bad that she got arrested.
Pacific Ridge had a zero tolerance rule for substances. All she had to do was walk into school a little drunk and slosh around a water bottle full of vodka. She would’ve gotten herself kicked out in no time.
What she failed to consider, unfortunately, was that vodka made her brave.
Brave enough to destroy an entire computer lab with a baseball bat, apparently.

But to be a stranger was better than to be a reincarnation of Howard Stark, Tony decided. Tony had despised his father; his father had hated his grandfather, and his grandfather had fled to America because he hated his great-grandfather so much. It was only destiny for a Stark to be a terrible father, but Tony could break the cycle. Tony would break the cycle.
He wouldn't be suffocating and agressive and abusive, like Howard. He would never scream at his son, or hit him or force him to mature before he was ready. It would be better if removed himself from the equation entirely, and allowed his son to grow up unburdened by all of his generational shittiness.
or, Tony Stark isn't a very good father at first, and it takes extreme measures for him to realise the error in his ways.

And Ben had slapped him, then—and Peter thinks for the first time that perhaps he had lost them both after all.
---Aunt May goes after Peter that night, and neither Peter nor Ben were quite the same after that. Good and evil are just words. Monster. Martyr. Mortal. Other nouns and adjectives that don't really mean anything at all. Peter is like a definition. Ben is a passing thought. Tony Stark is an exclamation point.

Summary
The Enhanced Registration Act passed months ago, pushed through by congress after Tony had signed the Accords.
The registration act really had no bearing on Tony’s life in general. He wasn’t enhanced and didn’t have daily contact with anyone who was. Then a chance encounter with a dodgy teenager during a terrorist attack changed everything for Tony.
Peter Parker was fifteen years old, sassy, and downright brilliant. Oh yeah, he was also the hero Spider-Man Tony had respected for months. To him, the registration act was a promise of life in prison.
Deciding to help Peter was one of the easiest decisions of Tony’s life. He was determined to get this kid to look to a bright future, enjoy life, and stay out of SHIELD’s hands, even if it means becoming a fugitive himself.
Or: Peter is living like there’s no tomorrow when he meets Tony in his civilian identity. Tony sees this and decides to pour himself into this kid, in attempt get him to actually care about himself and his life, all while working to repeal the registration act that has Peter feeling so despondent.
