“New Year’s Day,” Eddie corrects again.
“New Year’s Day, then,” Richie allows.
There’s another beat of silence before he hears Eddie sigh audibly over the phone line. "I’m thinking about leaving my wife.”
“Why’s that?” Richie asks. He’s already hooked. He genuinely cares about all of his callers and wants to help, but something about Eddie’s got its nails in him. Honestly, he doesn’t mind all that much. It’s a nice change of pace, to feel something.
“We don’t get along all that well,” Eddie tells him. “I… I don’t know. We don’t really have anything in common. She’s sort of controlling, I guess. And I think I might be gay, so—”

Eddie’s had this alarming habit recently of staring at Richie’s face while Richie is talking and completely tuning out whatever Richie is saying to instead scrutinize each one of his physical characteristics and decide whether or not he finds them attractive. It’s probably flattering because, on the whole, his judgment is: attractive. But the entire exercise has an air of anger and incredulity that makes it difficult for Richie to feel too smug about it. Eddie thinks Richie’s ears are cute and he wants to bite them, but he’s fucking pissed about it, apparently.
Or, Richie has a side-effect from the deadlights: he can read Eddie’s mind.

Stanley Uris has been well aware of Eddie's feelings for Richie for a while now, even longer than Eddie himself, but after seeing his carving on the Kissing Bridge and knowing that this was Derry, Stan decides to confront Eddie about this to make sure he has thought this through.
'"Wait... what do you mean?" Eddie asked, suddenly startled, and confused at Stan's statement.
"I don't know, I guess I figured you would've been more discreet I guess."
Eddie was quiet and staring towards him from behind his comic with an emotion that Stan was struggling to read now.
"The 'E'?"
"Yes, Eddie. The 'E' from 'R + E' on the Kissing Bridge you carved?"
Now Eddie had taken on a sickly pallor, looking terrified and Stan, while worried, was at least relieved they were on the same page now.
"Stan, I didn't carve that..."'

Then there wasn’t room amidst all the mourning, nor was there space between turning around and rescuing Richie. Never the right time, never the right place, never a moment alone, always some convenient excuse Bill could use as a reason for why he wasn’t quite ready to confront how he felt about Mike.

Richie is a canvas for survival, and it is traceable through the sores on his body and the bruises on his chest and the way that Eddie can count his ribs. He is a testament of endurance. His body practically sings the story of everything he has overcome to get here today. It breaks Eddie’s fucking heart looking at him.
