Seresin men love with reckless abandon. It’s put every man before him in the ground.
Jake refuses to be buried.
He flies like he has nothing left to lose (he doesn’t), a one man army (he is), leaving everyone else in the dust (so they don’t leave him). Admiral Kazansky claps him on the shoulder, says he expects great things from him, and Jake’s smile is feral as the rest of his flight school cohort looks on in disbelief.
Hangman, they all say, like Jake’s entire personality was a long con, and he ranks first in class.
Rooster doesn’t look at all.

After the brass had left, Maverick had hovered back with the rest of the team for a moment. He’d looked every year of his age when he’d suggested, quietly but firmly, that they should stick close for their time off, saying that the Bradshaws had a house nearby that should fit the whole team if need be. Jake’s shrink always tells him he can’t isolate himself after the hard missions, and the other pilots must have been getting the same advice because there hadn’t been a single protest.
Our favourite pilots get a month to recuperate after the Suicide-Mission-That-Wasn't and they all bunk at Rooster's house. Things would be a lot easier if the history between Jake and Bradley could stop trying to bubble back to the surface.- Language:

Summary
“Hello sweetheart. You got me worried for a second, almost started to think you forgot about me,” Jake teased with false reproach and a twinkle in his eye that said he didn’t think that possible at all. He wasn’t wrong. Things were now not at all what Jake thought they were though.
Jake lost two years of his life after hitting his head in an accident, forgetting that he and Bradley got divorced. Bradley has to remind him and live with the consequences.

Pretty much Goose still gets in a life threatening crash. Except he doesn't get hit on the head. Luckily him and Pete were already nearing the water except gooses parachute didn't realise in time. Making him crash into the water in a danger speed. Resulting in something that will change his life forever.

When Jake is traded to the Bills at the start of the season, Bradley faces the loss of one of his best targets downfield and his best friend 7 hours out of reach. This would be hard enough as it is, except Bradley is also hit with the realization he's been in love with Jake and is a complete fool about the whole ordeal.
Jake fell first. Bradley fell harder, with the cataclysmic drama only a NFL starting quarterback could be capable of.
