“Hi,” he said, voice relieved and quiet, “how’re you feeling?”
Han wanted to answer - he found himself wanting to respond positively if only to ease the troubled look in the man’s kind eyes - but the only thing that left his throat was a squeak.
The man scoffed good naturedly, and ducked his head. He pressed his forehead to their joined hands for a moment, as if gathering strength, before he righted himself again.
When he met Han’s eyes, he was crying.
“I’m so glad you’re back,” he whispered as he crumbled, “and I’m sorry it took us so long to get you out.”
Life outside the Shining City is desolate and primitive - but it's free.
When Jisung is taken back to be re-indoctrinated, he has to find within himself the strength to survive and to remember his brothers who are waiting for him on the outside.

“Did you wake me up just to berate me?" Felix asks, head tilting a fraction. "Or was your plan to debate semantics for the rest of the evening?”
“I didn’t want to wake you—” Chan cuts himself off, hand flexing around the biosync, grooves digging into his palm. “Turn you on. I didn’t want to turn you on at all.”
Felix’s brows lift, a minute shift that makes his face seem more animated. “Then perhaps you’d like to explain why I’m standing here,” he gestures to the room, then to Chan, “taking part in this oh-so-stimulating conversation?”
“State-sanctioned corporate blackmail.”
Felix is unimpressed by this answer.
Chan has spent three years in a seclusion pod when the system sends him Felix, an android designed to keep him company. Or to keep him from killing himself. Chan isn’t entirely sure what the truth is, but he knows better than to trust anything they give him, doesn’t he?

It was like a hot iron had been pressed down on his neck, flashes of pain tearing through his head as images of faces he had never seen before started plaguing his mind like a jumbled film of shattered scenes.But just as abruptly as they had appeared, the images vanished from his mind's eye like a rubber band snapping, causing his vision to swim dangerously before his body succumbed and everything around him fell into the peaceful embrace of darkness…
