Summary
Peter has been mistaken for homeless a surprising number of times now. He needs to stop falling asleep in alleyways after patrol. Most people ignore him, but one man, Frank, tries help him out.
It's sweet, and something Peter remembers fondly. He hadn't been looked after like that in a long time. Frank's kindness was exactly the thing he needed.
Which is why it's so shocking to run into Frank on patrol, and realise the kind stranger is also a violent vigilante.
When Frank mistakes Peter for being homeless, he does his best to help him out. The kids about the same age as Frank's youngest would be. He couldn't just ignore the freezing kid, sleeping in an alley.
He doesn't really think about it again, other than to occasionally wonder if Peter's doing better, if he's safe and warm.
Little does he know, the asshole in a red and blue suit who keeps ruining his missions is the very same person as that poor beat up kid Frank found curled up in an alleyway

“What, did someone stick you in a microwave?”
There’s a few seconds of quiet before Daniel seems to register his words, though he doesn’t pull away from the touch the way he usually would. “Yes. Clearly. I was cold, so I thought I’d try out the defrosting button on the microwave.”
The sarcasm falls flat, and Merritt takes the opportunity to be annoying about it. “Well, did it help? Because if it didn’t, I’d say you have a solid fever.”
Daniel sighs, moving back and seemingly remembering Merritt’s hand is still touching his face — and he reaches up to swat him away, missing Merritt by an inch. “I’m not sick. It’s fine, the house is just… cold. Nothing more.”
“Sure,” Merritt agrees easily, “that’s definitely a more likely conclusion than your crappy immune system failing you again.”

Daniel steals a sweater, is definitely not ill, and feels bad about practically everything up to and including every single decision he's made in the past three months. Merritt's here to be... helpful, for once.

Summary
Maybe this isn’t the awful thing it feels like. Perhaps whatever lingers in his blood that overrides his control is something intended to help, to make him better.
The thought doesn’t alleviate any of the terror that still swirls behind his ribcage, threatens to spill over and sink its icy teeth into his bones — but it’s something he clings to, nonetheless. He’ll figure it out, and stop it, and in the meantime it could be a good thing. He hasn’t figured out how to apologise, yet — but the logical first step would be to keep them happy, make sure he stays in their good graces and doesn’t do anything to further aggravate them.
He doesn’t like the idea, but if this — thing, this compulsion helps to make him more palatable, more tolerable and easier to be around, perhaps he’ll be allowed to stay long enough to make it up to them. He might be able to turn it into a good thing before he finds out how to end it, before it wears off. He’ll just wait it out.

J. Daniel Atlas ends up cursed, he thinks. It takes a while for the others to notice. In the meantime, he tries to stay sane. It's surprisingly difficult when your mind isn't your own, anymore.

Dylan hums uncomfortably, eyes darting between Jack and Daniel before settling somewhere on the ceiling for a moment. “I mentioned that the Eye had some weird experimental stuff up here, right?”
It was the first thing they’d been told when they’d first arrived, actually — don’t touch anything weird, don’t break anything and don’t ingest any of the sketchy things they find in either the cellar or the attic. “Uh,” Jack says, intelligently — “does breathing in red powder count as ingesting?”
Based on the flat look Dylan sends him, the answer ranges somewhere between yes and duh. He sighs, and he reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose. “I’m gonna make some phone calls, see what exactly was in it. Until then, stay put, don’t do anything weird and stay out of the attic. I don’t need you guys breathing in anything else and making this worse.”

Daniel and Jack accidentally break a magic potion in the Eye's attic — and temporarily swap personalities. This is not hard to figure out — it's only hard to adjust to, unfortunately for both of them. Everyone else suffers, too.
