Summary
The first time Dr Michael Robinavitch encounters Detective Jack Abbot is on a Tuesday afternoon outside Central Seven. Jack has a black eye and tension in his shoulders from being on high alert.
It's not the last time they meet.
Jack continues to come into the ED with suspicious injuries, and as their friendship grows, Jack refuses to let Robby in and tell him what's really going on. Robby is convinced something bad is going to happen to the person he's started to fall for, and he feels powerless to stop it.

“Do you actually have a place to live?”
Dennis has never been a good liar, and Jack Abbot’s unrelenting stare might as well be a polygraph test.
“I’m currently between places,” he admits.
Abbot works his jaw, head tilting to the side as he continues to assess Dennis like he’s a patient in his ED.
“Do you own a car?” He asks, his voice sounding softer to Dennis but maybe it's just dampened by the sound of his own pulse in his ears.
“Not at the moment, no, I’m actually-”
“Between cars?” Abbot finishes for him.
Shame pushes Dennis’s head down. “Yeah, something like that.”
Abbot continues to stare at him -does this guy ever blink?- before he sighs and shakes his head.
"Alright, pack your shit," He orders, clearly having heard enough.

“Now Robby, I know you can’t wait for him to be back on your shift so you can oogle him whenever, but he still has another week with me. You’ll get him back, I promise.” He replies with a knowing smirk that grows wider when Robby’s face grows flushed and he sputters indignantly.
“Wh- What do you mean oogle? I don’t oogle. I’m a consummate professional with all my residents and you know that!” Robby bites back, growing more red when Jack barks a laugh and claps him on the shoulder.
“Brother, please. You and I both know that’s a lie. Hell, Collins still works with you, though god knows why she puts herself through that.”
“Besides, you’re not exactly subtle with the way you act around Whitaker. I’m surprised no one else has noticed, or if they have they haven’t mentioned it.”

Jack and Robby have been together for years. They both realize they kind of have a thing for their new student doctor, Dennis Whitaker. It's just a matter of time before they realize he feels the exact same way.
