Summary
I wanted to dig deeper into Astarion's nature as a bloodthirsty predator, and this is the fic that came of that. He is neither soft nor fluffy here. Minthara is Minthara. It's a dark timeline version of act 1 events that deviates slightly from canon. I also took some small liberties with spell mechanics for the sake of the story, but tried to stay as true to lore as possible.
This is written from the perspective of an interloper who Astarion would view as acceptable prey, hence I created an OC instead of a Tav. I made up a whole backstory for her and I think she's neat. But uh, don't get too attached.

He only needs to stop it from running away, while he figures out a longer-term solution to its inconvenient compulsions.

Before Astarion has time to process any of this, he's thrown into adventure with a bunch of strangers – emphasis on strange. But it's all right. He'll survive. He always does, whatever it takes.

We’re so very, very hungry,” he purred, eyes glinting as his sister tensed further, her gaze firmly resting somewhere in the vicinity of Tav’s shoes.

“Don’t let go,” Tav murmured into the sharp jut of Astarion’s hipbone. His tone was light, but his eyes held a deeper concern.
Don’t lose yourself, he seemed to say.
“I’ll try not to,” Astarion promised, throat tight. “Catch me if I do?”

Summary
Cazador Szarr didn’t intend to turn a man like Astarion. That’s Aurelia’s working theory. Astarion—loud, prideful, panicky Astarion—was a crime of passion from a passionless monster. Astarion is a crime scene, not of a murder (murder isn’t a crime to a predator) but rather the crime of losing control. Aurelia is pretty sure Cazador couldn’t help himself.
