This is how it happens sometimes.
Ilya’s usually the one in charge. He says just the right filthy, loaded, and persuasive words. He strips them both and pushes Shane onto the bed or the nearest flat surface. From the moment things get heated, Shane is usually putty in his hands.
Sometimes, though. Sometimes Ilya doesn’t call the shots (sometimes, maybe, he doesn’t want to). Sometimes, Shane makes a sharp, straightforward statement, leaving Ilya feeling unmoored. When this happens, any chance Ilya had at being in control is instantly gone.

Ilya knew something was wrong the moment he stepped inside. Shane was standing with his hands in his pockets, posture stiff and rigid. But Ilya knew he really messed up when he saw his face. It was flushed pink, lips pursed tight and his wet, brown eyes were almost black with barely suppressed rage. Rage because of what, Ilya did not know yet.
Shane didn't greet with a hug or a kiss like he normally would but instead said in a voice tinged with forced calm,
"You were pretty busy today."
Ilya quickly rifled through the events that day wondering which one has resulted in this reaction but it was a fairly normal day. Nothing that would elicit Shane's anger except, oh.
"You mean, the actress who came to the game today?"
"So you knew what you did ?"Or : Shane doesn't like it when anyone touches his boyfriend and takes it out on Ilya.

“...You’re thinking of a landfill.”
Or, Ilya keeps calling Shane at odd hours to talk about nothing and everything. Shane, for some reason he can’t quite rationalize, keeps answering. And texting. And then things get a bit out of hand.
