Summary
CyberLife takes over Connor's mind in the final moments of the android uprising, causing him to shoot Markus on stage as the world watches. With the movement defeated and deviants once again on the run, Connor disappears and is presumed by most to be dead.
Hank's spent every day since then wondering what became of his android partner. When a drive-by shooting leads him to question several prostitutes who may have been witnesses, he discovers that Connor has been turning tricks to stay alive in a world where humans and deviants alike resent him.
Hank wants to protect Connor and save him from the life he's living, but Connor's not ready to accept Hank's opinion that he deserves happiness and love when he can't forgive himself for destroying the dreams of his people. It'll take a lot of persistence on Hank's part to convince Connor to let himself love and be loved the way he wanted to before CyberLife stole his soul.

Connor woke with what almost sounded like a sob as it tore itself from his voice box. He gasped, static filling his ears as he struggled to pull himself from the twisted memories and images that flashed behind his flickering eyelids. His hands spasmed as he grabbed for something, anything to hold onto that might ground him.
His vision was spinning, spiraling in places with images and people that did not and should not exist sitting in his periphery. He clenched his jaw so tightly that he felt the resin of his artificial teeth groaning in stress as he sucked painful gasps of air into what could serve as lungs.

Connor has another anxiety attack and Hank has to help him through it.

It was true, in a sense. Every other android didn’t, and it was what everyone knew. After all, it wasn’t like CyberLife told the public about that one unique feature of the RK800. All they knew was that he was a detective model, programmed to catch deviants. That was all they needed to know, anyway.
Because no one needed to know how accustomed he’d gotten to pain. No one needed to know how CyberLife specifically programmed him to feel pain in order to ensure he does his mission successfully and efficiently. No one needed to know about that cold, uninviting room within the depths of CyberLife tower, where its workers would take him apart for the sole purpose of reminding him what pain feels like. Of what it feels like to fail.
