Markus' eyes held a dark promise. Connor could feel that heat rising between them, could feel the warmth radiating off Markus' body, could feel the air moving with the rise and fall of their chests. Markus' fingers relaxed around Connor's shirt. Connor had expected him to grab his face or press up against him, but Markus pulled back. He swept his hands down his suit to smooth out the wrinkles, and calmly said: "Maybe later."
Connor couldn't stop the word from escaping his lips. "What?"

When Rawlins arrived that morning, Connor felt the first pang of unease.
The man was large, broad-shouldered, with the kind of weathered face that looked carved from stone. Deep-set eyes, a nose that had been broken at least twice, and the permanent shadow of stubble along his jaw. He wore his coat like armour, unbuttoned, revealing a holster strapped openly at his hip.
He didn’t offer his hand. Didn’t greet Connor with so much as a nod. Instead, his eyes flicked once to Connor’s LED, and his mouth twisted. “So this is the machine I’ve heard about.”
“Hello, my name is Connor,” Connor supplied. “I’ll be your partner until Lieutenant Anderson is cleared to return.”
Rawlins grunted, brushing past him. “We’ll see.”
Or, after Hank is placed on medical leave, Connor is reassigned to a new partner from a different precinct. Unfortunately, his new partner is more interested in using Connor as a tool than treating him like a living being.

Summary
Post Android Revolution, Detroit, a city of progress and change, is the home of co-existing humans and androids. However, it appears there's a darker truth being harboured by the city's own governance, in ties with multiple organisations; all unknown.
Gavin still has an aggressive, abrasive manner yet sharp instincts; he often alienates his colleagues with his harsh words, but he gets results.
Alongside him is Connor, the first deviant android detective. Previously designed to assist in investigations of his own species, Connor has a calm demeanour and an analytical mind. Yet, this doesn't make up for the journey of being deviant; his lack of emotional understanding often puts him at odds with Gavin.
The two, paired together to investigate the case, must find the ability to work together.

Meanwhile, Hank and Markus do everything in their power to find the missing detective and bring him home while a previous winner grapples with her own newfound humanity and her role in this contest.
Choices must be made, survival versus humanity. The clock is ticking, and hope is running out.

Certain that this is a test of will by Amanda, Connor tries to navigate this reality and be brought back to his own, despite these so-called "nurses" telling him it's all in his head. Connor knows Amanda, and this is something she would do... Right?
(Entirely self indulgent as there's only 5 dbh fics centred around the mental institution AU that I could find, so I'm writing one incorporating the ideas from those, in hopes some other people are looking for something similar. The main plot is heavily inspired by White Rabbit by GenericDemon. The fic seems to be abandoned, so I guess this is sort of what I invision as a continuation, but not really. Also Things We Carry by HildegardBi is VERY much worth the read.)
