Summary
Every time he would tell Ryan something in that stern voice, Ryan would shrink and give him the most wounded look in his eyes. At first, it made Naim feel bad. But eventually he figured out that Ryan would do it on purpose. He would push and push and do things he knew would get him in trouble. It was like a game, almost.
That was when the thread had started to unravel for Naim. Every kink in the chain was formed by some joke, some misunderstanding that went too far and had Ryan cowering at his feet with that hazy look in his eye.
Almost like a dog.

“Yeah but. Do you want me to have the ring?” Naim asks. The sides of his lips are all cut up, melting into the swollen gash of his mouth. The entire left side of his face is scraped from being forced onto the concrete. It’s ghastly. He’s still the prettiest person Ryan’s ever seen.
Naim’s really asking if he wants him or not, and Ryan does, of course he does. “Of course,” says Ryan.
Somehow, there are much more monstrous things in the world than the demon who wears Naim's face. Once they pledge their commitment to one another, Ryan finds out just how much.

“Will you tell me what happened in your nightmare?” Naim smiles as Ryan’s eyes widen. “I figure this is about that, right? You haven’t talked about it, even though you… you know.” Naim looks down at his boyfriend’s chest, eyeing the large burn that had bubbled up. Ryan hadn’t told him exactly what happened yet, but Naim found him in the bathroom two nights ago nursing a new burn on both his chest and the palm of his hand, and Ryan’s refused to cuddle near the fireplace ever since.
“I don’t know if that’s a good idea, love. It was… dark.” Ryan swallows uncomfortably.
“We’ve been through worse, Ry. Please?” Naim’s eyebrows tilt up, quietly begging Ryan with his eyes. Fuck those beautiful brown eyes.

To say that Naim was tired would be the biggest euphemism of the century.
Since he and Ryan boarded that bus many hours ago, aiming to put the greatest distance possible between themselves and Bandee, Naim didn’t know how it was to rest his eyes. For the first few hours they touched each other, holding hands, brushing fingers, resting their faces together just to feel their warm breaths mix, anything to remind them they were safe, they were together.
