It's common knowledge that having a long-distance relationship is complicated. It requires a lot of effort from both lovers and even so, it doesn't always work out, precisely because not seeing your loved one for long weeks is one of the most complicated things you can do.

One evening, Tighnari is out alone in the night when Collei approaches him.
He didn’t hear her wake from a nightmare. But his ears perk up nonetheless, still on alert, because rarely does Collei ever seek him out in the middle of the night.
The Nilotpala lotuses aren’t blooming. It’s a shame. The pounding rain only minutes ago obscured the moonlight, and he hasn’t been able to sleep, still wired from hours of hearing nothing but the pitter patter of droplets hitting windows like drums and the crack of thunder like divine punishment.
Collei sits down beside him. “I… had a dream, Master Tighnari.”
Tighnari hums in acknowledgement. Her voice is soft. Quiet. He can’t help but appreciate it.
“...I was wondering if you’d like to hear about it.”
Impossibly, his lips twitch in the ghost of a smile. “I would.”
It’s the first time Collei talks to him through the night instead of the other way around.
He doesn’t mind.
OR: Tighnari finds a world in the young girl with a smile as bright as the flowers in the rainforest and heart too big for her body.
And then, he loses it all.

If you ask anyone from Akademiya, they'll tell you the most romantic story about Cyno and Tighnari and how they’re definitely married and adopted this precious child.

Tighnari is halfway through laughing out a witty response when Cyno stoops down, almost as if impulsively, and presses a kiss to the top of his head.
Tighnari freezes. Cyno must feel it, because he stops moving immediately. "Ah—Cyno—" Tighnari splutters, and Cyno lets out some kind of strangled hum. "What was that for?"
Cyno takes a slow breath and lets it hiss out through his teeth. "Um," he says awkwardly. "Good morning kiss?"

However, Young-Cyno hadn’t really cared about the abuse at the time.

The Matra’s brows furrowed, nothing more, but it seemed to be nothing short of a pout to Tighnari. “It was the… favourable option. To keep you in the dark, so you wouldn’t yell, as you are right now.”
“Well I’m yelling now.” Tighnari said, helpfully. “Every time you depart for the Akademiya again, what do I ask of you?”
“...be safe.”
“Have you ever heeded my advice?”

They exchange confused glances. Tighnari’s eyes drift to the book. Quietly, he asks, “Is that the book I was looking for? How on Teyvat did you find that so fast?”
“It was overdue,” explains Cyno, which actually, really, explains nothing at all.
Or, the five times Cyno gave Tighnari something that reminded him of Tighnari, and the one time Tighnari gave Cyno something priceless.

“..Can I kiss you.” Cyno continues to stare back at him, running thin fingers deftly over the furred surface of Tighnari’s ears. The blooming blush, blossoming on his cheeks only continues to grow. Wasn’t it always like this, though? They were so far apart, separated by the distance of land, but always remembering. Maybe Cyno can kiss him. As a treat.
“You can.”
Cyno gave the sweetest of kisses. Highly different to his stoic demeanor, but welcome and cherished all the same. They tasted of honey and the faint trace of smoke. Every embrace carried the scent of jasmine and sandalwood. Each kiss was a promise, one potentially broken. Cyno was dangerous, like a thunderstorm. But perhaps it was Tighnari’s natural curiosity, that natural desire for knowledge, that urged him forth.
