“Hey, Luce,” she hears the next time she’s aware of herself. Tim, she thinks, at least it sounds like him, but Luce? She can’t even remember the last time he called her Lucy, let alone a nickname like Luce.
“Tim?” she rasps out, opening her eyes to see him sitting next to her bed.
“Hey, I’m here,” he says, grabbing her hand. It feels strange, and yet not all at once, because she can’t remember the last time he held her hand like that.
“Wha- happened?” she asks, still having difficulty speaking.
“Ummm- you- you tried to jump from one moving car to another, but you- you didn’t make the jump,” he says, and for the first time ever, she’s seeing her training officer be the exact opposite of his stoic self. Even back when Isabel had reappeared, he had never looked hurt like this. He certainly didn’t when she woke up after the barrel.
