Summary
Ambrosius, Ballister, and Nimona have each their own plethora of problems. All of them take steps back and progress at entirely different levels, sure, but for once..
They have someone there to help them through it.

Ballister is an awkward professor who spends his time on break working in his “lab” when he stumbles across a spunky cat and sweet barista, both providing very different personalities in his life.
Ambrosius works at a coffee shop, being as “normal” as he can be. Working past his nationally broadcasted childhood, he finds himself somewhere he never thought he’d be; making friends.
Nimona is a pissed off cat who was cursed by some punk ass witch to remain stuck as such. She has to deal with this weird old man asking her to use “manners” and “please don’t try to kill my guests” all day. Ridiculous. Still, he’s a source of free food, water, shelter, heat, and maybe hugs if she’s feeling generous.

Summary
Ballister works as a professor in a fairly small neighborhood in the mountains, spending his time as what he convinces himself to be a perfectly okay level of loneliness to drown himself in his work with.
One day he finds a stray (and admittedly) rude cat that some asshole decided to dye pink.
He’d probably take it to a shelter, vet, or foster home, if it weren’t for how weirdly human it seemed sometimes.
Still, it’s nice to have someone to complain to about the annoying morning jogger that he keeps running into.

Ambrosius works as a barista in an entirely normal neighborhood in an entirely normal way. After leaving his famous family behind, he struggled to grasp the bearings of what “normal” even meant.
But that was okay! He was learning! Besides, he was relishing in his own freedom way too much to worry about silly little things like crying himself to sleep or loneliness or whatever might plague his days. Everyone had those issues!
And besides, running into the cute guy who sits out on his porch with a pink cat is WAY more fun than worrying about all that.

Summary
The new world is almost perfect.
Emphasis on 'almost'.
It's been nearly a year since Nimona sacrificed herself, the Director and her plan were destroyed along with the wall that kept the kingdom secluded in fear, and the city is almost completely rebuilt. Ballister and Ambrosius have talked things out, albeit it took a few months to get all their tears, fears, and insecurities out. But they came out on top, just like they always do. They even got couples counseling, and now things are almost back to normal.
Nimona is back (though staying low in Ballisters' and her old lair), Ballister and Ambrosius are busy with being knights and the rebuilding effort but always make time for each other, and the kingdom is flourishing.
But there's still that 'almost' bit. The bit that Ballister can't seem to quite chase away, no matter how hard he tries to keep it suppressed. And it doesn't help that the fact is glaringly obvious, blinding him nearly every time he and Ambrosius kiss.
He's horny.
They haven't done anything in months.
And he wants to be fucked.

Summary
Ambrosius was feeling both stressed and idle. Every time he came home, there was a distinct chance that he would need to handle Bal having some kind of crisis, which had happened about once every two weeks in the three months since the fall of the cannon and Nimona’s death. But he’d resigned his captaincy and gotten a livable pension, so he didn’t have that much to do. He went on runs only in the evenings, so nobody could see his face. He was thinking of trying to start some kind of fencing gym, since his status would give him a boost in finding a customer base, but he hadn’t materialized the plans into anything concrete yet. He felt a twisted pang of irrational fear when he saw the breach in the wall and sometimes when he looked at Bal’s right arm he felt so guilty he could cry.
“I mean…just kind of what you’d expect,” Ambrosius said.
