Summary
A dance between three people over the course of three days.
January 28th is fast approaching. A premonition of their deaths sits heavy in the air, and Ide can’t ignore it when Aizawa seems certain of it and Light practically dangles it in front of their faces. Their days are numbered, and in these last precious scraps of time left together, Matsuda’s the one person he’d like to keep close. But he only ever seems to slip away— right into Light’s grasp.
Light’s plan is underway, each piece falling flawlessly into place and the New World brimming on the horizon. All this biding his time for years and years will finally amount to his proudest achievement yet. As Matsuda lies next to him in his bed, a lingering thought creeps in the back of his mind that dares to wonder if he’ll join him. Matsuda happily follows the script he writes, playing his part, chasing his touch, pliant as ever. He’s not a lost cause. Whether he’ll make the necessary sacrifice to stay by his side, however… is a different story.

So he's staring at me, right, and I am a person again for the first time in months. His gun is cold in my mouth. It feels nice; my throat hurts a lot these days and the metal makes my spit cold too when I swallow it. He's terrified, of course, because that insecurity is still inside him waiting to rot. He's pathetic. That's always been one of my favourite things about him. Normally that would be because it makes him easy to use, but nothing at all is complicated right now. I like him pathetic and I have no reason for it.

Eight months into Kuraigana, Zoro trips into a patch of flowers. The only two people on hand to help him with its bodily effects are people he'd rather not ask help from; ideally, he'd deal with this stupid situation himself. Unfortunately, he can't; fortunately, bafflingly, he doesn't need to ask either of them. (He won't think about this, later.)

By the time Light returned, Matsuda was quietly seething. Light must have noticed, but he sat down without a word and began turning through the paper heaped on the table between them.
He didn’t even know he was treated differently, did he?
And then an idea struck Matsuda, one that made him blink. It was formulated partly out of childish revenge — let’s see you keep your special treatment after this — but mostly out of boredom and curiosity. He had to do something to relieve the monotony, after all.
It was a simple matter to slip off one shoe and push his foot forwards under the table, to slide against Light’s.
Light jumped, and his head whipped up. Matsuda kept his eyes on the papers, not wanting to meet his gaze for fear of snapping under the pressure. Instead, he concentrated on his foot: stroking gently all the way along Light’s instep and up, before running his big toe around Light’s ankle. He dared to glance upwards, and saw that Light was staring blankly at him. Matsuda gave him a smile, and then returned his eyes to his work.
