Summary
“I would rather die than be a slave again.” The drow woman's face twisted in disappointment.
“Dearest, you are a slave. The question is, will you be a hungry slave, or will you be a sated slave?” He growled angrily, and she clapped her hands in delight.
“Such ferocity,” she hummed. “Perhaps you need some time to adjust."
She turned to depart, and he lunged on her, grabbing her around the neck and squeezing. She did not fight him, limp in his hands. She caressed his hair, his arms, a delighted smile on her face. He released her, repulsed as her hands intruded on the waist of his pants, and she croaked a laugh.
“We’re going to have a lot of fun,” she purred. Astarion slunk back, disgust festering in his stomach. The door opened as she approached it; she slid out and it was barred against him once more.
"Tav," he sighed, "what have you dragged us into?"Astarion refuses Halsin's offer to turn him mortal; Tav hatches a plan to return to her childhood home in Menzoberranzan to find an ancient artifact which could solve all of their problems. Getting there is easy. Getting out? That's another story. Can they find what they came here to get, or will all of the pain amount to nothing?

Summary
“Something funny?” She whipped her words at Aumon, but his smirk did not disappear. She watched his lips, soft and plush as they formed a reply.
“Of course not, darling.”
Tav’s face flushed, blood rushing to the tips of her ears. His voice was dark and sultry, but that was not the cause of her discomfort.
“Don’t call me that,” she snapped. His eyebrow raised, but he knew better than to look at her.
“What shall I call you?” He was cautious, careful. He didn’t know her yet, but judging by his family he expected her to be every bit as mercurial and vicious as his mother and sisters.
“You may call me by my name.” He did look at her then, his eyes registering mild surprise. It was unusual for a patron to call his matron by her name, but she was not a matron and he was not her patron. There was some uncharted territory here that they had to navigate. Eventually he nodded, his eyes returning to his plate.
“As you wish, Nymanore.” She bristled at the name, but did not correct him. Better to keep him as distant from her true self as possible, lest he find out she wasn’t planning to stick around.Series

Summary
Aumon Baenre was smaller than she expected, but he was not lithe and sleek like his female family. His strong jaw was wide, framing out his square face with a wide brow. His eyes were light, their red seeming as if lit from within. His hair was lavender, and he stood out from the others in this aspect alone. His face was placid and calm, like an unbroken pond’s surface. He seemed almost like an empty vessel, awaiting orders without prejudice or preconceived notion. He seemed incredibly boring, Tav mused. She had heard no tales of his activities, but she knew he had until recently attended Tier Breche. As for his primary discipline, if the large sword at his hip was any indication he had excelled at Melee-Magthere. She wondered if he was disgraced somehow, to accept a betrothal from her inferior house. House Baenre was famous for its wizardry; perhaps he had flunked magic school.

Summary
“I’m looking for a drow girl, hair like fire. She was brought here a day or two ago.” The boy held out his hand and Astarion dropped one gold coin in his palm, but did not release him. The boy laughed.
“Haven’t seen any kidnapped girl,” he said, “but I can tell you what’s new. Word is Nimor Imphraezl is making moves on House Faen Tlabbar again. Some folk say he’s planted a fake Elistraee priestess in the Temple of Lolth up in the high city. Nobody knows why.”
Astarion scoffed. “I don’t care about the petty foibles of the ruling houses here.”
“You ought to, if you’re looking for someone. No one who can help you find her better than the Assassin.”Series

Summary
“Oh, yes,” Astarion jumps to answer, voice laced with roguish pride. “Sometimes she gets so wound up I think a bite alone might be enough to undo her.”
For the first time this evening, Halsin falters, hand stuttering to a still against the page. He blinks a few times at the notebook before his eyes lift, shifting between the lovers.
Red eyes drift to meet the druids, gaze heavy and meaningful. Something Halsin very much picks up on based on the twitch Zyn sees in his jaw. Nostrils flaring slightly as he inhales.
“Would you like to see?” Astarion offers sensuously.

Summary
There's something to be said for those moments in-between missions, the ones where you manage to hold off on worrying about the tadpoles in your brain. The brief instances of levity in which you can afford to appreciate the beauty hidden in this strange, precarious new world you find yourself navigating.
The moments where rubies sparkle in a new light behind a curtain of long lashes, the mischievous, twinkling stars casting a blue glow glossing off silvery hair. Pretty things seem suddenly far too intent to watch your mouth run away from you, especially where a particular traveling companion who you just can't seem to stay away from is concerned.
Can you merely be Astarion's mirror in all this? Can your honeyed words break through his bitter smiles? Or have your compliments doomed you both from the moment they left your lips?
