“That’s not… like, an undine, is it?” Kabru asks hesitantly.
Laios, who is pulling out bowls from the cabinets, swivels around. “Oh!” he exclaims, following his gaze. “That’s just Ralph.”
This does not assuage Kabru’s fears in the slightest. “And Ralph is..?”
Laios blinks. Then, his eyes widen, and he almost drops the dishes in his hands. “Oh my god,” he says. “No, no, no, I’m so sorry, I would never - Ralph is what I called my sourdough starter.”
“Oh,” breathes Kabru, slightly pacified. The kettle starts to whistle, and Laios scrambles to take it off the heat. “So it’s not… alive?”
“Well, it is,” says Laios, pouring the water into a couple of mugs. “I mean, no! I mean -” He puts the kettle down. “It’s yeast. You keep it in a jar, and you, like, feed it.”
“Huh,” mutters Kabru, and slumps heavily on the counter. He feels more like listening than talking, so he says, “Tell me about it.”

Arthur nodded gravely, every eye in the council meeting upon him. “Camelot is dangerously close to division even now that sorcery is legal. We need someone who will unite us all, and I cannot settle for less. I’ll send riders out at first light chasing rumours and follow up any promising leads we have myself.”
He looked so beautiful when he said it, every inch the king, with the sunlight through the windows turning him gold. His voice had taken on that richness that sometimes infused Arthur’s words – that for the good of the kingdom voice, that let it be so voice, the voice that Merlin had come to understand meant another brick laid on the road to Albion.
Unfortunately, that voice had been co-opted for a fucking farce."

Summary
Emrys and the King have been sworn rivals for as long as they can remember. The King wants to maintain peace, and loathes that Emrys refuses to stay inside the law. Emrys wants to help his community by whatever means possible, even if that means burning down every law and building that stands in his way. They've never seen eye to eye, and never will.
What a shame that behind the masks they're Merlin and Arthur, who live under the same roof, and sleep in the same bed, and have no idea the person they've thrown off buildings and the person they promised to never harm in their wedding vows are one and the same.
