Summary
Pete’s shaking now, staring at the floor, trying to make sense of what Mikey’s saying but all he can hear is the blood rushing in his ears and his own uneven breath. Mikey’s looking at him like he expects Pete to say something but what is there left to say, he just laid it all bare at his feet.
“So that's it?” Pete manages to force out between his shaking breaths, still unable to meet Mikey’s eyes.
“What the fuck is that supposed to mean?” he spits at the smaller figure, still far too put together for the conversation they’re having.
“You're just gonna throw everything away without a second thought?” Pete spits back, finally meeting his eyes and challenging him.
He softens slightly, pausing for a second, like he’s been caught off guard.
“Pete, we always knew this was just gonna be a tour fling, don’t be like that.” he says simply.

Summary
But more than that, Alex knows that the more people he tells about the breakup, the more real it becomes. Once it’s real, it’s unfixable. Alex is holding onto hope, tragically, pathetically, like a sailor on a stormy sea grasping for a plank of his splintered raft, like somehow that will magically transport him to shore, where everything will be okay.
He’s starting to think he wouldn’t recognize the shore if he saw it. All he knows is ocean and rain.
