Summary
Inevitable, beyond the mere concept of inevitability. Kafka had been one of the best before she retired at a mere twenty-five, and it had been sheer talent that propelled her there. Even back then, Himeko had known—Kafka was a storyteller, and not even five years of retirement could snuff out that flame.
It’s an issue. A big one.
Because if Kafka gets this role, then the ghost becomes flesh. The phantom gets a call sheet, a trailer, a wardrobe rack. Three months of shared scenes and early mornings and Yao Guang’s terrifyingly intimate notes on eye contact. If Kafka gets this role, Himeko will have to stand across from her every single day and pretend that the last five years did not leave a strange little bruise somewhere beneath her ribs.
or, they're actresses, Kafka reemerges after five years of radio silence, and Himeko wonders what the hell she did to deserve this.

Summary
Ch3: Like carefully adding sticks and turning over the logs in a hearth, Yang’s physical marks of care had done nothing but continue the burning of Blake’s heart. So many times, Blake should have told Yang to stop. So many times, the pain never out-seared the comfort and warmth.
---Love is selfless. It's patient. Faithful. It settles in the heart and fills the veins with calm certainty.
Blake should have moved on a long time ago.
But then the truth comes out, and Yang promises to try reciprocating Blake's feelings. She thinks she can, probably. Except being a huntress is fraught with danger and loss.
And sometimes keeping promises is secondary to keeping it together.
Barely.
But as long as they try, that's what matters most, in the end, isn't it?

Summary
Blake blinks against the spotlight, the applause from the Capitol crowd deafening in her ears. It’s not for her, she knows that. It’s for the spectacle she’s part of. They’re applauding the performance, the show, the drama of it all. She keeps her expression neutral, doing her best to suppress the disgust curling in her gut.
How can they enjoy this? How can they cheer when they know, deep down, it’s all part of a game that demands real bloodshed? Blake's eyes briefly flicker to the audience, the faces shining with excitement and delight. She watches them clap, smile, revel in the theatrics of it all, and she feels sick. This isn’t a sport. It’s not a game. It's people like her and Yang, like the others from the districts, being forced into a life-or-death struggle for their entertainment.

Summary
Alt-rock band Menagerie, crashing and burning following the success of their first album and tour, recently cut from their contract with White Fang Records, and now out of a drummer, is in desperate need of a soft place to land. After being blacklisted from nearly every studio in Vale by Menagerie frontwoman Blake Belladonna’s abusive ex-boyfriend — and the band’s former A&R — Adam Taurus, they’re running out of options and running out of time. When they stumble upon Rose Thorn Studios, they never expect a new home, an endless river of inspiration, and their missing piece to be waiting within.
“They say music is the language of the universe,” Blake says softly. “Would you call me crazy if I said I can hear it singing?”
“No,” Yang answers. “I’ve heard it in your voice. Felt it in your hands. Burned it into my soul.
I’ve never heard a song so beautiful.”

“We have to leave.”
“For how long?” Blake asked, ears folded back slightly.
She shook her head defeatedly, “Until she fully gets control of the business.”
“But I know someone,” Coco interjected.
“Who?”
A reassuring smile spread on her face, “My best friend, Yang Xiao Long.”
(Blake’s best friend and photographer have to leave after exciting news, but that leaves Blake and Weiss wondering who will take Velvet’s place in the meantime. Thankfully for them, Coco has a friend who’s been doing this for years.)

They were without a doubt the nerdiest band of weirdos ever to be condemned to Saturday detention.
Gideon was used to slumming it every weekend with the roughest of the rough; today she found herself packed in tight with a gaggle of overly inquisitive science geeks with no self control, and the exasperated ride-or-die jock friends who had reluctantly aided them in their weird-ass academic hyperfixations, most of which inevitably involved dead things, or things that could be set on fire.
OR:
A ten-year high school reunion brings the old Canaan High cohort back together to relive the events surrounding a fateful weekend detention, unearthing old skeletons in the closet and feelings that should have been buried six feet under.

White Rose prequel to Dream Theory!
As the Vale Police Department’s head of technology, Ruby relies on her technical know-how to help detectives build cases and put criminals away. She’s good at what she does - great, even - but some days she feels a little...unchallenged.
Weiss, on the other hand, has no issue with her job’s lack of challenge. As one of Vale’s best defense attorneys, she actually quite enjoys browbeating the prosecution into submission. Her goal is to be the BEST, and she’ll do just about anything to get there.
When Weiss’ ambition leads her into Ruby’s world, crossing the line between allowable and forbidden, both of them are changed in ways they never would have expected.

“Not sure if anyone told you, but I don’t think there’s a flirting requirement for fake dating deals.”
Slowly, Blake peeled her eyes from the carpet towards Yang. They were squinted now and glinting in such a way that read as both vaguely surprised and utterly charming.
“And who said that’s what I was doing, Yang Xiao Long?” Blake leaned ever-so-slightly closer and batted her eyelashes playfully. Yang bit the inside of her cheek, holding her breath and mentally stumbling through a comeback suited to the moment that wasn’t just ‘If only you knew how badly I’m hoping that’s the truth.’
