Flashes of last night come back to you. That bastard shoving you to the floor, chanting, light starting to bleed from your body. The beginning of the agony. Then he disappeared for god knows how long, leaving you to suffer, before Dean showed up. But as soon as Dean's hand was on the back of your neck, the way he used to stroke your hair when you were sick as a kid, it was pulled away.
The mastermind, the guy behind all this (whatever this was), had Dean by the back of the shirt with an angel blade to his throat. Ringing ruptured your ears and at first you thought you were going blind. But a golden glow seeped out from the man's body, spreading to the walls, leaving him a reverse silhouette in the shape of an angel. Music cracked the air like thunder as a loud, operatic hymn in a language you didn't know surrounded you from all sides. All you could tell was that something was terribly wrong and the angel was going to kill Dean, and you couldn't let—
That was when the white light broke through the dam, flooding through your body and leaving every inch of you in searing pain. You had to stop him, but all you could do was scream as bones snapped and something weighed down on your back.

Tony's not exactly surprised that Rogers looked like he was taking a last glance at his fiancé before wedding preparations. It was just who he looked at like that which chills Tony to the bone.
Because the warm, confident man from his father's stories—the guy whose eyes always sparkled when they caught Rogers' smile—is not the thing following behind him.
The only word Tony can think of is the same one Nick Fury had used when information on his parents' killer refused to come up—a ghost. And, fuck, they walk so quietly he wouldn't be surprised they're floating. With the stringy dark hair thing they have going on, they could pretty much be the girl from The Ring except if she crawled out of the TV with a gun and killed your parents.

Silent as a ghost, a black-cloaked figure lands on the exposed tile. There's still smoke coming from his gun.
"Didn't I tell you?" Reid shouts, desperation lacing his rage. "Let me handle the silver-haired girl!"
The whistling wind whips through the window, running through the gunman's snowy hair and blowing back both his long black coat and the loose ends of the bandages around his right eye. Nothing lives inside his blood-red iris, and there's no trace of an expression on his placid face.

Summary
The person he'd been then was long since dead, buried under the heavy drifts of snow in his subconscious. Bucky thinks about him sometimes—Yakov, the choreographer, who existed for about three years before They extinguished him like a candle and handed control back to the snowstorm responsible for burying him. Someone who was meant to carry out one job before disappearing like he'd never existed, because he never really had existed.
Yakov was just the polite name for the fiction that anything in Bucky's body could be a person, and Natalia's "Yasha" was an imaginary friend to occupy the illusion.

Captain America is made of stars: they're in his blood, they twinkle behind his freckles, they shine from his eyes. He's a constellation drawn into a man, superhuman and bright enough to burn, an enigma of physics and biology.He's far from the only enigma the Avengers have on offer: distant stars shimmer in Black Widow's eyes, Bruce Banner's cortisol response is irradiated in starshine, and Iron Man has (or had) a binary star system in his chest.
Then, of course, the ghost of a secret—the Winter Soldier, cold as ice and dark as shadow, skin patched with starless sky. Light-devouring, constantly ravenous, with his own gravitational pull—he has all the hallmarks of a black hole. What better to swallow a star? But Bucky Barnes still exists under layers of frost and metal and dark matter, and he's terrified that the draw he feels to the brightest star in the sky is something more than a memory of love.
Too bad Steve's dedicated to standing by his side.

Summary

Summary
When their attempts to recreate the super soldier serum failed, Hydra started trying to breed Captain America clones from his genetic samples. Unfortunately, the serum's effects aren't passed down genetically, so instead of an army of tiny Captain Americas, they get a bunch of tow-headed, asthmatic, allergic, immuno-compromised little Steves.
And then the Winter Soldier stumbles across Hydra's failed experiment...
