Hopper snorts a laugh when he sees him, and immediately walks over to graciously relieve him of the container of food.
But Steve's eyes are on Munson, who was trying oh so hard to be subtle as he looks him up and down. For a moment he'd wished he'd worn something more flattering than old jeans and Robin's green hoodie.

Summary
Steve Harrington has been working his entire life for this: his first ever NHL game, as the rookie goalie for the Montreal Canadiens. As a second generation NHL player, Steve knows he has a lot riding on this game, and on his entire career, but he's not worried. He may be young, but he's got the talent and skills to back him up, with nothing else to distract him.
That is, until Bruins forward and noted troublemaker Eddie Munson, a fellow rookie who Steve knows vaguely from Juniors, skates onto the ice and into Steve’s closet, and threatens to tear down everything he’s worked for with his criminally talented tongue.

Right as Charlie pressed send, he heard a low laugh from his left. He froze and slowly turned his head towards the boy residing on his shoulder, praying to every god imaginable that he did not see his messages, or else Charlie would literally die of embarrassment. Thankfully, he was met with the sight of a sleeping Nick with his eyes tightly shut and subtle snores escaping his mouth. He let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and relaxed back into his seat. His friends had stopped responding, probably fallen back asleep due to the ungodly early hour it was, so Charlie decided to follow suit by putting his sleep mask back on. Sleep was about to take over Charlie’s body when he heard a quiet raspy mumble from the boy next to him.
“You’re cute and hot too,” punctuated by snores.
Charlie was wide awake for the rest of the flight.

The minutes dragged on, the tension building, someone was singing ABBA’s Mamma Mia, and then four people walked onto the stage, and the crowd exploded in cheers and whistles, and Steve thought he might have a heart attack, actually, because he knew these people – there was Robin Buckley who he’d briefly worked with in that godawful ice cream place a couple years ago, there was Jeff something something who Steve remembered stealing lunch money from in middle school, there was another guy who looked vaguely familiar but who Steve couldn’t place, and then there was Eddie fucking Munson.
Steve remembered Eddie. Remembered watching him and talking about him and laughing at him behind his back and other stuff, stuff he’d rather forget, stuff he was still trying to make up for, stuff he didn’t want the kids to find out about ever because if they did, they were sure to write him off, and Steve would deserve it, was the thing.
And then Eddie started playing his guitar and started singing and Steve’s mind went blank.***

Eddie Munson isn't very good at puzzles.
Well.
He can make them, sure, in the form of weeks-long campaigns for his bandmates and a ragtag group of now sophomores he'd come to adore. He's great at making them. Great at making villains that his party thought they'd had figured out, beaten, only to make a quick 180 and have them come back from the dead for a final, earth-shattering fight. Yeah. He can make them.
What Eddie Munson can't do when it comes to puzzles, is figure them the fuck out. Especially, it seems, when the puzzle comes in the form of a boy one year younger than him and slightly shorter when you don't count his mass of gorgeous hair that makes him, falsely, look taller than Eddie. This puzzle had saved the world with him, had saved him when he was sure he was a goner.
The puzzle's name, of course, is Steve Harrington. King Steve, to many, Hawkins High's golden boy, rich and charming and apparently, a fucking badass.
Eddie never stood a chance.

There’s so many people around, all focused on Nick, and truly, Nick only has so much of himself to split between these different parts of his life. Nick loves him, Charlie knows that, but sometimes the thoughts in his head make him wonder. Because while Nick thrives, Charlie struggles because really, it isn’t his world. It’s Nick’s.
