Summary
Maybe he shouldn't have looked over his shoulder, such as that night at the beach when they kept their eyes off the plague, even for a mere moment.
Times change, tragedies remain.

Summary

Summary
Rieux sat with his close friend Tarrou. He listened as Tarrou recounted his life and his childhood, the lessons he had learned. The man is a great storyteller, and he leads Rieux to truly think about his words. The doctor finds himself surprisingly emotional hearing his stories. He wishes he could have met Tarrou in his youth. They could have sat and talked as they are now. He wonders what that would have done. What that could have changed for Tarrou, and for him as well. He looks at Tarrou, then back at the town, then back at Tarrou again as he speaks. Tarrou is explaining his unique view of the world and men. And while the doctor respects Tarrou and his more radical thoughts, he wants to pull the other man back from his aspiring sainthood and keep him in this moment, with him.

I discovered I have a sort of black box quick-save feature. In the event of a catastrophic failure, the last two minutes of my life are preserved for analysis. I was able - well, forced really - to relive you killing me. Again and again. Forever.

Summary
“Please,” Rieux began, his voice strained, “be careful. It does make a difference…”
The difference between the moon and a black hole eating up the stars, he thought feverishly.
Tarrou smiled as he leaned closer, kissing him on the mouth as smoothly and precisely as he turned sharp corners while driving or crossed out names on a list, hands always steady and light and utterly unfaltering. And Rieux wanted then, desperately, to be guided by his sure, steady hands - just for a moment, and to follow with his mind a blank slate, dark and calm and looked to by no one.

Summary
“Do you know what we should do for friendship’s sake?” he asked softly, still examining Rieux’s face.
“Whatever you want,” the doctor responded without thinking.Doctor Rieux and Tarrou steal an hour from the plague for a chance to escape the stifling air of the city and experience their relationship fully. But does the epidemic still leave space for their feelings for each other, or is everything important doomed to be left unsaid? My take on the swimming scene.
