Summary
The Bowerbird wasn't playing fair; Jack couldn't debate these pieces of paper. He couldn't tell pieces of paper and a growing pile of feathers that he, too, remembered the rare treat that was eating a single piece of tropical fruit in the heavy heat of a Christmas afternoon, stickying his best suit of clothes, which had been so clean and pressed for church that morning.
(In which Inspector Jack Robinson is having a fairly uneventful year, divorce notwithstanding, until he acquires a lady doctor for a drinking buddy and receives a series of flirtatious notes from a jewel thief.)

A serial killing, tax evading person who was mean to waiters and double parked. It’s the only reasonable explanation.

Summary
“A lovely thing about Christmas is that it’s compulsory, like a thunderstorm, and we all go through it together.” -Garrison Keillor, ‘Leaving Home’-
“Is everything all right there? You managing okay, sunshine?”
“Just a sec.” Doyle squished the receiver between his ear and undamaged shoulder and walked the few steps to his armchair. Trust Bodie to manage soft concern over a telephone line and nothing but sledgehammer wit when perched on a hospital bed. He manouevred around carefully, but still hit the cushion at an awkward angle because he was unable to use his plastered arm for balance. He swore loudly and was unsurprised to hear Bodie chuckle in his ear.
“Shut it, you. You are not the one wearing a brick.”
“True, but then you’re not the one drinking the piss Anson calls tea and living with McCabe’s feet for three days.”

Summary
Bodie shifted uncomfortably in his hard plastic, scoop-shaped, orange seat, and tried to resist the urge to look over to where Ray sat – in the chair next to him at a distance prescribed by the bar fixings of the ranks of seats, and apparently absorbed in the local paper: Tug-of-Love Housewife, 29, in High Speed Chase.
With a muffled grunt, Bodie managed to slide his right leg - entirely encased in thick plaster from the groin down - along the floor, and rearranged his elbow crutches where they rested beside him.

Summary
The first time, it was Doyle who climbed into bed with Bodie. Only it wasn’t so much climbed as shuffled, it wasn’t so much lust as hypothermia, and it wasn’t so much desire as desperation.
“Let us in, Bodie!”
“Absolutely not, Raymond."

Bookmarker's Notes
The driver had seemed to take him philosophically, and keeping a cursory fingertip on the wheel while he tackled the mountain road with Le Mans verve, gave him in sign language some basics of Greek – yes, no, bread, wine, and, when confronting oncoming traffic, what Doyle assumed to be wanker.

A coda to my favourite moment in Pros - the mad dash across the airfield in 'Fugitive'..
All aching aside, the funny thing was the weight of it, which he could still feel. Fifteen pounds, they'd said. Not even a fraction of what Bodie bench-pressed one handed when he was showing off. But weighed out in high explosives strapped securely over his heart, those fifteen pounds had dragged like the Rock of Gibraltar in as many seconds. With his hands tied behind his back, the ungainly press of it had threatened his balance as he ran hell-for-leather away from the gunfire, away from the chaos of voices, and away from the maniac pounding after him through the smoke.

Summary
Doyle wakes up in a warehouse to find himself injured, suffering from amnesia, and apparently involved in a bombing plot with a man named Foster. He soon meets Williams--a tall, dark, beautiful (and engagingly modest) mercenary arms dealer. Doyle tries to find out who he is, what's going on, and why he instinctively trusts Williams, even though he clearly shouldn't.
