Summary
Following the death of his wife, John Winchester became New England's most notorious Witchfinder, taking his sons up and down the land to burn out evil. Dean has always sought to follow in his father's footsteps, and rid the world of the wickedness which killed his mother.
But on returning to their hometown, John senses the corruption of magic everywhere, while Sam is fascinated by it. Dean must toil to save his brother's soul from hell, as well as from their father's wrath. To do so, he pursues the man he suspects of leading his brother astray—a man who lives alone, on the wide, dark lake which sits at the feet of the town. But Dean's pursuit turns inch by inch into obsession. As the insatiable hunger in him grows, he is followed by horrors of the town which had, secret and unspoken, lain for decades under fathoms of dark water.

Summary
Cas presses his body closer to Dean’s, and this, and its intensity, steals Dean’s breath. “What about this?” he asks. “Am I close enough to you, now?” Dean blinks, lips parted. He swallows.
“I’d have you closer, still,” he answers, and Castiel’s eyes are warmer and softer than the flames of the forge. He cups Dean’s jaw, runs his thumb across Dean’s cheek. Dean’s hands are behind him, he curls them round the edge of the worktable in terrified anticipation. The room is amber as flame and flames of want lick along Dean’s insides.

Summary
Parenthood is something Dean didn’t grow into, it’s something that grew Dean. Dean grew out of it, grew into himself, thinks he’s more like himself than he’s ever been allowed to be. Ever allowed himself to be.
Castiel is a Mr Rogers-style host of the children's TV show, The Sanctuary. The show is Ben's favourite - and his single father, Dean's, too. Okay, he's a little besotted with the gentle, earnest, cardigained and a little eccentric host. He even has a guest starring fox on the show, every few weeks.
So, when the chance arises for Dean to take his son to see Castiel at a meet-and-greet, he jumps on it. But in line, Dean panics, nearly faints, and is taken to sit in a quiet corner with some water while his son says hi to Castiel. Naturally, Dean's kicking himself for the rest of the day - until Castiel, watching Dean as he carries Ben on his shoulders, decides to approach and ask if he's recovered. And if, maybe, he'd like to grab a coffee.

Summary
Cas’s fingertips held in his own, Dean brings the angel’s hand to his mouth, and presses his lips to Cas’s weathered knuckles.
It’s just a thank you. It’s just a way of saying thank you.
Of saying 'thanks, I know that having to do this shit all the time must annoy you, and I know that for some reason you’ve chosen to worry about me and I’m sorry that you have to, and also, I appreciate it.'
It took Dean years not to resent the help of Cas healing him. But slowly the resentment melts into tolerance, and again into thankfulness. And every time Cas touches Dean to heal him, he starts saying his thanks by repaying in touch. It starts with grazing his lips against Cas's knuckles, squeezing his hands, kissing the soft skin of his wrist.
It’s a way of saying thanks. And, he guesses, sorry.
Of saying, 'Sorry for scaring you. I don’t know how me being hurt could scare you like it always seems to. But it always seems to. And that scares me.'

Summary
Just west of the town Porthgwarra, Cornwall, Robert Singer’s farm lies, a mess of ravaged land gaping out onto a fretting sea. Robert's orphaned godson, Dean Winchester, is named sole beneficiary of the farm - and though he hasn't seen his godfather in fifteen years, he travels across the Atlantic with his brother and half brother to care for Singer in his old age and tend to the farm. All of them hope to leave behind the squalor and famine of their old life.
What Dean meets is the bird-infested home of a widowed eccentric, and a new shepherd whom he can neither stand nor see any use for - stoic, rude and conceited, Dean plans to fire the mysterious and wandering Mr Novak the moment he comes into legal possession of the farm. But upon the shepherd's offer to teach him the trade, in anticipation of Dean replacing the man himself, Dean finds in the wild and roaming man a steadiness and certainty his own life has never yet contained. And one day Dean will have to ask, not tell, the shepherd to stay.

Summary
Cas is in town to deal with the fledgling unionization that's taking place at the factory. It should be a cut-and-dried case. There shouldn't be any need to return. Definitely not to a dingy diner for a man who's married.
But Dean's husband is awful and Dean is the first person in a long, long time that Cas has wanted to let in.
So once Dean expresses interest, Cas finds his sense of decency crumbling. Even more so when Dean's carefree facade starts cracking whenever the two of them are alone.

Summary
The night John Winchester dies, Dean drives aimlessly through the city until he finds himself stopping at a bookstore he’s never noticed before. He doesn’t know why he stops. He doesn’t know why he goes inside.
The place is warm and inviting, even if the shopkeeper is a little robotic. While browsing the shelves, Dean finds surreal books like histories where the Titanic never sank and JFK was never assassinated.
And then he finds his shelf: rows of books bearing his name. Some are pasts he never lived. Others are futures he never could have dreamed. All of them are impossible lives. The shopkeeper tells him the only way to leave is to choose one. When Dean refuses, the bookstore turns against him, plunging him into a nightmare with only one way out: choose.
What does free will mean in a place like this? And what happens to those who refuse to choose?

Cas doesn’t look like how he looked when he died. Dean remembers the leviathan, the sludgy crawl of black up his veins before he started to dissolve. He looks kind of like that, and the edges of the whites of his eyes are starting to grow dull and dark and sick with it. “I don’t know,” Cas says.
The Empty has found its worst nightmare yet. When this is over, these memories will engrave themselves along the hollow, waning remains of his grace, and it will be as if these moments exist in perpetuity, wrenched from time’s linearity. They will haunt him as everything haunts him.
