Thus, a deal was struck, a treaty agreed upon. Rivia would not take military action against any allied kingdom and in turn, the kingdoms would provide the king of Rivia with a consort. So far, that last bit was the part of the treaty that had gone to shit. As far as Jaskier had understood, up to now the White Wolf had turned down all the proffered brides. If a consort was not approved, the treaty would be null and void.
Where Jaskier is the last chance of fulfilling the requirements of a treaty between the warlord of Rivia, and the allied kingdoms. Will it prove to be his rescue or his doom?

A cocky grin paints his lips; Geralt pauses, caught in place by a sudden shock of familiarity. His mind fuzzes over and, for a moment, all he can think of is the color of this man’s hair, the accent lilting his words when he thanks the crowd and hosts for a wonderful night. He’s confidence and playful arrogance painted in shades of burgundy and brown, wrapped in leather and detailed fabrics. Geralt tenses, jaw tight as he stares.
It doesn’t click until Dandelion looks to his corner, deep blue eyes penetrating into Geralt’s bones.

Since beginning this arrangement, he’s starting to see a whole new side to Yagi that he never would have expected before - like that one fancy art exhibition Nem pulled him to a few months back in Tokyo. There was some specific collection there; all about things that looked flat, lifeless, from a distance, and with just a few steps closer down a stark white hall turned into fully formed, dimensional objects.
Maybe that metaphor’s a little on the nose. But the point stands.
It would be hard, not to fall a little bit in love with the Yagi he's come to know. Harder to hang up the irrational hope of it being returned.

His initial awe was brief, though.
"Wait! I don't care who you are!", Jaskier bellowed, loud enough enough to make the seasoned fighter flinch. "You're dying and I'll help you, whether you want it or not! I don't care who you failed or what your mission is. That stupid helmet's gotta–" He completed his monologue with an undignified yelp because a laser beam flew right by his face and missed him by a hair's breadth.

When Geralt gets close he sees that Jaskier’s eyes are shut. He’s breathing freely, just a little congested from the plaster that’s settled on his skin, making him look chill and dead. “Jaskier,” Geralt says, relieved, “wake up.” He reaches to touch the bard’s cheek.
But his fingers fail to make contact. They slide away when they get near, as if his body is coated in oil, or grease; something slick that allows no purchase. He tries again, pressing harder, and the resistance hardens in turn, like glass beneath his fingers, smooth and cold.
“Jaskier,” he says again, and winces at the desperation in his voice. He touched the emerald, and it did something to him. Mad Tymon was right: it contained power. A curse.
Geralt takes a contract to investigate a haunted house, and ends up haunting it.
