Inej only looked at Kaz steadily, watching as his shoulders lowered, as the cracks started to appear in the armour – the cracks that allowed her to take a peek within. He opened his mouth once, snapped it shut again and closed his eyes, as if not having her in his peripheral vision made it easier to speak.
