She shows him honour, and he teaches her of madness, of Aerys; the old, the mad, the scab. Their paths seem inexorably twined as they march back to capital, freed once more to fulfill their oath - but it cannot last. News of the Red Wedding leaves Brienne adrift and Jaime surprised at his longing to comfort her. Once their arduous march south along the Kingsroad delivers them to King's Landing, Jaime struggles to resolve who he was with who he has become. Meanwhile, Brienne must face a harrowing accusation - the vilest of crimes that a knight could ever face - that of king slaying. Jamie is sentenced by Queen Daenerys to "Take the Silver" for killing the mad king. Taking the Silver means fighting the Others in the North with Dany's army, something he and Brienne were already doing before he was arrested. But now that he and Brienne are stuck in KIng's Landing for a while, maybe the time has come to let her know how he feels. Between Cersei also being readied to go North and fight, Tyrion with his inappropriate humor and Queen Daenaerys' demands and truly terrible decorating choices, will things ever go smoothly for them? Set in the same universe as A Role to Play and Chained in Gold, perhaps another five years down the road. All you really need to know about this universe is that Loki has been sent from Jotunheim to gain political influence in Asgard, but he's not going to be content with being a hound on someone else's leash, so he's made a bargain with himself, that he will give whatever he must of himself to gain the prince of the Realm Eternal wrapped around his fingers in return.
It is the time of Lithasblot, the Midsummer Harvest Festival, and Loki begins to put his greater machinations into place.
