Billy always considered Stu a “lap dog” of sorts. He certainly obeyed him like one.He agreed with all of Billy’s illegal, frankly psychotic schemes, wagging his tail and looking up to Billy for acknowledgement. If we ignore the fact that Stu was a lot taller than Billy, that explains their whole relationship.
Billy commands, Stu listens, Stu gets a treat.

Now? Of course not. How could he think of himself as above, let alone decent? Jimmy wrecked all of that. Gary wasn’t smart at all, as he claimed on the rooftop—he was so wrong and so, so stupid. And without his alleged intellect, what is he? What worth does he have to anyone, if any at all?
“I… don’t know,” Gary responds, weaker than he intended. Tension hangs in the air; the ticks seem to echo through the room.
“Gary,” Dr. Bambillo leans over his desk, fingers interlocked.
“Do you like yourself?”
A therapy session with Dr. Bambillo ends up being a wake-up call for Gary. It also keeps him awake, so he finds Jimmy in the middle of the night to get some fresh air.
