Thing is, they really have changed. The ‘situation’ has changed. He’s afraid he won’t keep up. He doesn’t know why he’d denied it before. Sometimes Seifer feels three years younger, eighteen again, drifting and drowning for a purpose amidst the scalding dream he burned himself with the first time he tried cooking a meal when he was a kid. Not because he wasn’t being fed, or because there wasn’t any care filling up his stomach, but because he was dead-set on doing it all by himself. And it tasted like shit.
Ain’t that just the ragged root of it all?

Summary
It’s frustrating. Genesis would rather not feel affection for her. The first day of having Iduna on his own, he’d tried everything to calm her down. He’d even held her and rocked her in a way that felt unnatural, something he knew he’d have to get used to sooner or later. It wasn’t until he fumbled through exhausted sobs of his own and buried his face into his arms where they rested on her basket did Iduna quiet her cries, apparently disturbed by the addition of noise. He’d looked at Iduna, faces matching both red and wet, and she’d opened her eyes to stare at him. Green as can be.
The thought of giving her away only ever occurred to him in bouts of fear, because to him, that is simply abandonment. An act he’s well-versed in.
It is no longer out of duty that he cares for her. And that terrifies Genesis.

Summary
Sephiroth looks up to see the white light of the bathroom. Genesis’ fingers are cold on the flushed warmth of Sephiroth’s nose, thanks to the blood rushing throughout her face. She feels him wipe at the dried blood on her lips and chin, his breath fanning across her skin in a slight tickle.
She catches on the small bruises forming along his wrist in the downcast of her eyes, with splatted droplets of her blood, and suddenly she feels sick.

Vash can’t help but crumble once more and warble out a teary, “Nico,” canines biting down on his flesh hand to stop it from reaching out.
Nick’s breath catches in his throat.
He isn’t understanding what happened and can’t even begin to draw any conclusions, yet Nick doesn’t expect any answers from Vash while he’s clearly not coherent either. Vash’s form makes him look undeniably—purposely?—smaller despite his stature, so much like the other children he helped raise in Hopeland, when they couldn’t quite deal with all the huge bounts of pain churning in their fragile bodies and would shrivel up like they were back in the safety of a womb.

“Who are you seeing? Is it—is it him!?”
A lingering side of Cloud knows that his healing with Aerith, and his tears with Zack, had been undeniably real.
The man Tifa speaks of has plagued his nightmares for the last year, nowhere to be seen in the light of day or in the faces of his family. Sephiroth is no longer a part of Cloud. Sephiroth can no longer tear apart his visage and reach into the caverns of his existence, crushing everything in sight like a bloody, wilted carnation. Sephiroth is no more when it comes to battling with death before he gets a chance to live. Sephiroth is gone. But Zack and Aerith… Cloud can’t say the same for.
He hopes he never has to.

Where did it all come from?
The silly, obnoxiously cute names for Sunny that spew out of him like they were made to be used by him; the sudden lax and delicate care in the way he holds her hand with his forefinger and thumb, his own hand being ten times larger; the joining in on Hal’s hummed lullabies shamelessly, pulling out songs of his own that he knows his partner doesn’t exactly favor, just to receive a glance from Sunny.
Dave wants to give her what he couldn’t have, probably.

Shuffling his feet makes the duo turn to look at him—he feels himself wilt on the spot. But her eyes, carrying the softness of cotton sheets and lily petals, welcome him warmly. She clasps her hands together behind her back as she approaches Cloud yet, for once, he doesn’t find himself wanting to recoil away.
Cloud meets the angel of the slums church, and doesn’t want to leave.

Summary
Zack squeezes his hand. “Didn’t think I’d let Aerith have all the fun, did you?”
That must be what finally makes Cloud fall apart.
There’s a lump forming in his throat at the mention of Aerith, and just the thought of Zack arguing with the Planet—of all life—to come see him again, makes his legs feel weak. He’s stronger than this, is supposed to be stronger than this, but Cloud can’t seem to hold back the sound of a sob coming up his lungs.

“You’re a SOLDIER, too?” Aerith asks, like it isn’t one of the most weighted things that he’s ever heard.
“…Ex-SOLDIER. Not anymore.”
Cloud wants to tell her that he never got into SOLDIER and can’t even be considered part of the program. He wants to tell her about the poisoning of his body when he was a child and have her listen until he forgets all that he remembers. Except he doesn’t know what it’d do to the time that hates him more than anything, so he keeps his soul sealed shut.

Tifa smiles reassuringly, more to him than to herself. “I wouldn’t have anyone else do it, Cloud. You know that.”
“That’s what I’m afraid of.”
Cloud helps Tifa make some wanted change.
