He unbuckles his sword from where it’s hanging from a leather belt, and lifts it to place it on the kitchen counter just outside his easy reach. “I’m here to ask for your help. Not compel you. I believe Wen Chao, and perhaps others in his sect, have been somehow perverting cultivation with the influence of the supernatural. The undead, specifically.”
Wei Ying takes an entirely unnecessary breath. “My influence, you mean.”

Summary
Lan Wangji walks forward, extending his senses for some sign of the magic confining them. But there is nothing. One moment, he is walking away from the village. The next, Wei Wuxian stands in the road ahead of him, the dizi tracing lazy arcs in the air.
He stops and looks behind him. The view has not changed. He stands there, helpless. Baffled. Like a koi circling a pond, eternally struggling to go nowhere.
“Messes with your head, doesn’t it?”
He turns to Wei Wuxian, who regards him calmly, almost pityingly. Wei Wuxian has endured this for months. Months. Lan Wangji wants to scream. He wants to batter down this cage and fly away without looking back.
Or while returning from a night hunt, Lan Wangji is trapped in a strange village that is terrorized by monsters. However, an intriguing cultivator named Wei Wuxian is also trapped there, so it isn't all bad. And guess what? They have to be roommates.

Summary
Lan Wangji could not say, it will all be over soon. He wished he could, but this would be something they would need to live with, something they would need to heal from. Already, Lan Wangji could see how it was affecting Wei Ying, how it had shaken his already fragile confidence, his grip on his tangible experience.
He could not say that it would be over, could not pretend that this had never happened, that Wei Ying had not been hurt. What he could do, however, was love his husband. That was all. He didn’t need to do anything more.

Wei Wuxian is ready, waiting. The front and back doors of the Jingshi wait open, allowing the early summer breeze to pass through the house, bringing with it the scent of the flowers from the back garden. He has rope, crimson and smooth and well-worn, coiled in a neat pile. He has tea, perfectly brewed, the lightly flavored (nearly tasteless) kind that Lan Zhan likes, waiting in a pot with a warming talisman. There’s a comb, fine-toothed of carved white jade. There’s fruit, for later, perfectly ripe. There’s a small knife with a curved blade, still sharp as anything but stained with years of sap. There’s the garden, lovingly tended and fully in bloom in waves of pinks and purples and whites. There’s him, lounging against the frame of the back door, limbs sprawled about in the languid way that looks careless to an outsider but is actually carefully choreographed to put as much of himself on display as possible. He’s technically fully dressed, red inner robe and black outer, but the black outer robe is unbelted, half-hanging off one shoulder, and he’s decidedly not wearing trousers. His bare feet poke out the red folds, pale against the wood of the Jingshi deck.
Or: Rope bondage as the deepest expression of affection.

Summary
Lan Zhan is—everything. Wei Wuxian looks at him, and he aches. And somewhere near the base of his neck, wrapped around the white bones of his spine, the little hitchhiking ghost whispers: wouldn't it be nice, if we had him all to ourselves? Wouldn't that be nice?
That's the crux of it, really. Lotuses bloom for half the year. The sun sets in the west. Wei Wuxian wants Lan Wangji. And the ghost, too, wants Lan Wangji—but it wants much more than Wei Wuxian is willing to take.

Summary
A burst of talisman-shaped flame appears in the air before Lan Wangji’s eyes. Out of that flame and onto the table drops—a letter.
“What is that?” shufu demands.
Lan Wangji plucks the letter off the table. He recognizes Wei Ying’s scrawl: Lan Zhan, Cloud Recesses, followed by the name of a town several li away, as well as a cramped set of instructions on how to send a reply through the same flame-burst method.
The happiness that shoots through him is so fierce that it almost frightens him.
“Correspondence,” he says finally, tucking the letter into his sleeve, “for the Chief Cultivator.”
In which Lan Wangji wants Wei Ying, and writes to Wei Ying, and waits for Wei Ying to come home.

Summary
Wei Wuxian is slow, these months, a pitiful grower. It is difficult to learn how to be soft; it feels too much like growing sharper. To not keep secrets is to narrate terrible stories that causes guilt and fear in those around him. To not grin and work his way through the aches by himself is to be unable to get out of bed and to snap because it fucking hurts when his husband asks him why. Is that who he is, when he doesn’t strive to be easy?
He feels chilled by the realization, shoved face first into ice-melt water. As if the dirt-stained dagger sliding in beneath his ribs was the pulled thread, starting the rapid unraveling of the tapestry of his domestic dreams. The flash of cold, hard reality between yellow fields and fireplace-kisses.

An exploration of the world and characters of The Untamed, comprised of missing and post-canon scenes, consistent to the best of my ability with the canon and timeline of the live-action version of the story (as seen on Netflix). When I was uncertain about something - travel times and distances between places, background relationships, sequences of events, etc - I used various fan resources for research; in some cases, I made judgement calls, which will be kept consistent throughout the series. Summary
Wei Ying is not in bed.
Normally, Wei Ying is curled up next to Lan Wangji when he wakes at five. Wei Ying will be strewn about, soft limbs and dark hair fanned and sprawled, leg over Wangji's hip, arms wrapped tightly around his chest, and face pressed into his neck. Even in sleep, Wei Ying is a bundle of energy; he is always moving. Now, Wangji wakes to a cold bed, and no Wei Ying.
A series of sleepwalking episodes leaves Wei Wuxian refusing to sleep, and Lan Wangji at his wit's end on how to deal with them. It appears, however, that it is anything but simple sleepwalking. And there is no telling just what may happen if the episodes are left unchecked.

Summary
Jiang Cheng is still staring at the place Lan Sizhui had stood.
The last living remnant of a persecuted clan, so much an amalgamation of his two fathers that it didn’t make sense that one of them had been dead for most of his young life—holding a grudge and bowing his head at the same time. Lan Wangji, in Jiang Cheng’s experience, has never once let something go that he could nurse icy resentment for instead. Wei Wuxian has always choked down hurt like it was second nature, no matter that it must feel like swallowing nails every time.
It was a normal conversation, but perhaps that’s exactly why Lan Sizhui couldn’t bear another second of it.
“He died,” Lan Sizhui had said, as raw as a fresh wound, or one that kept getting torn open again before it could heal. “What more do you want?”
