"Yes you are," Martin said, stepping closer with trembling shoulders. "You’re doing that thing again. The calm thing you always do when everything falls apart, sitting there acting fine while the world ends."
The truth of it hung heavily between them. James had always been the stable one, the pillar that had to stay standing when everyone else collapsed, and seeing four young alphas look at him like the axis of the earth had shifted reminded him that he couldn't afford to shatter first.
"I’m not fine," James whispered, the rare confession silencing the room completely as he stared down at his trembling hands.
"I just… I don’t know what else to do."
Martin’s anger crumbled into a devastated expression, Keonho looked on the verge of tears, and Juhoon pressed a hand hard against his mouth, turning away. And Seonghyeon—Seonghyeon hadn't stopped watching him once, sitting unnaturally still at the edge of the room like a sentinel monitoring every breath.

“...No,” Tim says finally, meeting Dick’s gaze without flinching. “You don’t get to disappear on us for a year, come back, pretend everything is fine and then expect me to just let it go. That’s not how it works.”
“He’s right you know,” the kid says unhelpfully. Why won’t he just shut up? Why is he always here?
Dick’s lip twitch.
“Tim…” Dick starts, but the warning in his voice doesn't carry much weight. He’s too tired. He’s been too tired for months. Maybe years. “Some things are better left alone.”
“Not when they’re eating you alive.” Tim’s voice drops, softer now, no less firm. “We’re not blind, you know. Jason won’t admit it but he worries. Damian keeps asking why you don't come by anymore. Even Babs—”
“Stop.” Dick’s voice comes out sharper than he means, and Tim flinches. Just barely, but enough for Dick to notice it and feel bad. He scrubs a hand over his face, exhaling hard. “The truth hurts worse than you think. And I’m not gonna put that on you.”
