Summary
Salvage diver Ed Teach is no stranger to the story of Blackbeard and the Queen Anne's Revenge- after all, the famous pirate is a distant ancestor. But then Professor Stede Bonnet, maritime archaeologist and many-times-great-grandson of the original, waltzes through the door of his shop and requests his services in finding the wreck. What are the odds?
Ed's had enough of the cutthroat world of salvage diving, and he's this close to leaving it all behind. But Bonnet's quest sparks an interest he hasn't felt in years, and he agrees to help the oddly charming man. Nothing to do with the fact that the Queen Anne might just be the last treasure trove Ed needs to escape his life. Definitely nothing to do with the way Bonnet's cheerful enthusiasm makes his heart skip a beat.
Together they'll hunt for the wreck... and then they'll reckon with what comes next.

And Ed thought he would be content to be this way with him forever. Even though the dinghy was too small to lay comfortably in, and the hard wood hurt his back, and he really would have killed for a pillow that wasn't a lumpy sack of oranges."

They walk up the main road, Stede chewing the inside of his lip. He doesn’t see any heads turn to follow them or anyone do a double take like they immediately recognize him or think they’re seeing a ghost, so that’s something, at least. Is it a good something? Stede doesn’t know.
“Stede,” Ed mutters in his ear, leaning closer as they walk. “Breathe.”
Stede releases a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding, then turns to smile gratefully at Ed. “Sorry,” he replies, sheepish. “I’m a little nervous.”

Instead of the sight of Pizza Hut’s beautifully intricate box and an exhausted delivery boy tired of his existence, he finds his neighbor, 917, standing in front of him, with a nervous grimace instead of his trademarked shit-eating grin, his leg bouncing like he's ready to bolt any damn second.
“Uh, hey.” says James, really, really lamely, and Steve's second immediate thought is I'm not letting him crash on my couch, no fucking way.
