It wasn't until later, when Regina was staring down at Snow's precious prince sprawled out over the crumpled remnants of a magical top hat, that she thought to herself she must be an exemplary kisser. She'd always known she was good, of course, but nobody had ever willingly thrown themselves into a portal to oblivion with a harbinger of death over it before.
The whole affair did wonders for the ego, quite honestly. And that wrapped up another plot rather nicely. If she did say so herself.

Emma peaks an eye out through a hole between two of her fingers. Regina’s expression is nothing short of smug.
“You guys what now?” Emma’s voice is small and mouse-like.
“It was a business date. I was trying to convince her to work for me.”
“Wait, what?”
“I’m retiring. Not now, or anytime soon. But one day I am and I’d like to start training someone who would want to take over Storybrooke. I do have plans, Miss Swan, to accomplish before I die and being mayor is a full-time commitment.”
“It–It wasn’t…” Her brain keeps repeating the words ‘business date business date business date’.
I am going to kill Henry.
“No, dear, it wasn’t. Now had I known you had such strong feelings about me going on dates–”

A Swan Queen-focused re-imagining of the 4x07 - 4x09 arc because, as much as I loved Gay Elsa, bringing Emma back to herself and in control of her magic should have been done by Regina.
On top of all the Swan Queen, plenty of Swan-Mills Family feels abound.
"Regina clenched her jaw, tried to look more annoyed than the fear she felt. Eventually all she could do was slowly reach out and press her palm to Emma’s. It felt like fire, hot but not painful, like closing a circuit; the flow of nervous electricity. Emma spun and there she was – Regina: a tornado, a fury, a seriously fucked off mother bear. “Did you hurt Henry?” she roared.
“The Snow Queen—” Emma turned but there was no one there.
“DID YOU HURT OUR SON?”
“Yes!” The word fled Emma’s throat, a strangled cry filled with saltwater and regret. “I didn’t mean—He was bleeding—”
Regina shoved her, hard. Emma stumbled backwards, tripped over a branch and sprawled to the ground.
“I will kill you,” Regina growled and magic swelled in her palm, a roaring fireball of anger.
Emma rolled onto her side in the wet dirt. She sobbed, pleaded quietly, “Just do it.” This would be the end. Emma embraced it.
It never came.
Regina’s boots stopped short of her crumpled body and then her face appeared, still dangerous, still angry but also… softer somehow. Her eyes were wet, her face was… pared back. She looked younger.
“I’m not actually going to kill you.” There was a hitch in Regina’s voice like she said it reluctantly, that she was annoyed she had to say it at all.
“But... Henry—”
Regina gritted her teeth, paused; exhaled slowly. “He looked well enough to run away from me a minute ago.” Her voice rasped with dismay -- she would talk to her son sternly about that later.

“Are you sure sure?”
Emma stares at Ruby standing behind her through the propped mirror on the dining table as her friend quirks a brow. Valid enough question, she thinks. This is, indeed, a big change for her. But it’s one that’s been itching in the back of her mind for months. Every time she puts her hair up in a ponytail. Every time she puts a beanie on to keep it out of her face. Every time she washes her hair and the weight of it seems heavier on her shoulders. It’s the longest time she’s sat on a decision for someone whose impulse control leaves a lot to be desired. That must mean something.
“Yeah, Rubes. I’m sure sure.”
Ruby throws a half hearted salute back at her along with a reassuring grin before taking a pair of scissors to the bundle of her ponytail. Emma closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. She clutches at the towel around her neck and tries to focus her attention on the sounds filtering through the open window of Ruby’s apartment. She hopes the sound of people coming and going through Granny’s just beneath them will drown out the snipping sound of the scissors cutting through her golden curls.

Emboldened at having caught Regina—in what, she’s not sure yet, but there’s something in the way Regina responds. Emma keeps going, resting her hands on her lower back, her thumbs hooked onto the elastic of her shorts. “You didn’t look at me at all last night. Or at the meeting. Or at the diner this morning. It’s all everyone’s been talking about, but not you. Why is that?”

And then the oddest thing happened. She was suddenly enveloped in Regina’s arms, her head resting on the shorter woman’s shoulder. Though they hadn’t necessarily reached the hugging level of friendship, it wasn’t weird. It was comforting. She felt safe.
She continued to cry as she felt Regina rub circles on her back, whispering that everything was going to be okay and that she could stay at the mansion if she’d like. When Regina turned her head and kissed Emma’s neck, just a soft, sweet thing, Emma ignored the spark and reveled in the safety of Regina’s embrace.

Regina loses her cat during the 4th of July fireworks, when she realizes it the next morning she panics before remembering seeing something about a cat rescuer in the area.
