Summary
long enough after the quiet rapture, clive rosfield undergoes convict realization. iron lung au.
"Convict," the voice that makes it through the static, mostly audible, half-warped. "Still here?"
For a second, he's tempted not to respond. What will they have to say, if he doesn't? Will they drag him back up into their delivery ship, take all the welds off the hole they'd shoved him through before they cut the chain between the handcuffs? Take a look at the corpse of a man who has already been dead, and just started rotting late.
"Convict." The stranger's tone sharpens a little. Expectation. He tilts his head towards the radio.
Everything tastes like metal.
"Yes," an even, smooth response, as he clears his throat and adjusts his grip on the straps. "I'm still here."
"Good. We're beginning the descent."

Summary
clive breaks up with a long-term boyfriend, and joshua sees an opportunity. or, clive takes someone who's not a stranger home from a bar, and gets what he didn't realize he was after anyway.
A week out from a breakup with a boy he was already on the fence about continuing a relationship with and here he is moping in a bar. In a club. He’d laugh at his own god damn stereotypical bullshit if he had it in him, but in the moment, it manifests in an audible snort as he fishes out a third ice cube and elects to suck on it. There is still a vague taste of alcohol clinging to it and so he savors the bitterness before nudging the glass away. Maybe another one. Maybe a short walk to find himself some of those cigarettes, though he hasn’t smoked in a good six years.

clive rosfield has a strange creature plaguing his nightmares and his body. joshua, his beloved older brother, has uncovered a binding ritual that will see the thing soothed by way of pinning it beneath the talons of the phoenix.
“Beneath the Talon of the Phoenix,” He murmurs, his voice low, run through with magicks. “I shall keep you.”
He feels the brief catch of Clive’s breath against the heel of his palm.
“By Flame and by Wing,” Joshua’s voice grows a step lower, “I shall keep you.” -

“You have not been listening, have you.” The intonation makes it clear that Father doesn’t ask a question, and so Clive replies with the barest shake of his head, unable or unwilling to find his words. “A waste of an important day.”
“I was dreaming,” he says, quietly.
“It was only a dream,” Barnabas replies, and there is the briefest feeling from Clive that he has heard it before. A prickling sensation at the back of his neck, and an ache like a dull bruise. “Shall we return to our discussion?”
His mouth is dry; the bruise-ache doesn’t fade. “Yes, Father.”Series

"That's alright," Joshua said, pulling his knees against his chest and murmuring quietly. "Even if you detested me for it, I wouldn't mind. As long as you don't leave me alone."
Clive leaned over and pressed a slow, gentle kiss on Joshua's lips.
"I don't detest you," he said, tapping their foreheads together. "I love you."
"I know. I promise I've thought this through. I'm not going out there just to die."
