Summary
“You didn’t do the washing up before you started cooking, did you?”
Harry ducks his head. “No,” he admits. “No, I did not.”
“Hmm. Come here.” Kim raises an eyebrow, watches as Harry briefly struggles against the lure of it before sagging. It’s funny; he’s a big man, made bigger by the force of his personality, but against the eyebrow he dwindles himself away to nothing. Kim savours the taste of authority underneath his tongue. Like popping candy, something sparking and electric. "Messy."Kim and Harry spend an evening at home. They've both been cooking.

Summary
“Fuck.” Kim leverages his body as a prop for Harry to lean on, letting him brace himself against his shoulder, and darts his eyes down to Harry’s hip almost expecting to see blood pooling out. That’s ridiculous, of course. The wound is more than three months old now, what with his medical leave and Kim’s transfer and everything that has happened in this weird transitional space. It won’t reopen itself. Not after all that time. But it’s clear that it troubles him; something internal, hot and searing. He winces when Kim wraps his fingers around his forearm to stabilise him, too. “Khm. Sorry, was that-”
“No, no, you’re fine. Sorry. I feel like one big bruise today. Skin hurts.”
“You don’t have to apologise for me hurting you.”Kim and Harry head back to Martinaise to investigate the disappearance of a Wild Pines negotiator who appears to have walked of his own volition out into the sea. Harry struggles with his chronic pain in the wake of his gunshot wound. Despite all of this, they continue to silently pine.

Summary
INLAND EMPIRE: He falls asleep sometimes with your hand wrapped around his, clutched to his chest. You like it because you can feel him breathing. Sometimes when you’ve had a loud day he has you sit between his legs on the floor while he sits on the couch and pushes his fingers through your soft hair, massages all the chaos out of your head until you’re groaning and letting the full weight of your overfull skull rest on his thigh. Runs his fingers through your mutton chops until you’re full to bursting with satisfaction.
INTERFACING: His hands are clever. They take you apart and put you back together like one of his machines. They smell of the polish he uses on the leather of his gloves, beeswax and eucalyptus. They’re beautiful, too.

Summary
PERCEPTION: The pink imitation feather boa, coiling like a long-necked bird, hanging down from the coat stand beside the door, is loudest. It talks in a soft hissing voice. It is soft and beautiful and when you take it down and touch the soft feathers to your skin it coils itself around your neck like the most beautiful hug. It shimmies around your shoulders. Beautiful.
RHETORIC: Fake feathers, of course.
SAVOIRE FAIRE: No cockatoos harmed in the making of this glorious vision.
BUBBLEGUM PINK FEATHER BOA: Look at yourself, darling. Look how wonderful you look.Harry dresses up for another performance.

Summary
KIM KITSURAGI: One hand comes up to cling frantically at your neck. He’s scrambling for some shred of composure, some scrap of authority, but he’s breathless and laughing and it goes straight to your head like a second-hand high. “Put me down!”
You: “Gotta carry you over the threshold,” you grunt. “It’s good luck.”
ENCYCLOPEDIA: An old Ubi Sunt? tradition. It’s a symbol of devotion, of the sickness-and-health part of marriage vows.
LOGIC: You’re never going to get married. You’re sure of that. It’s not legal, and anyway Kim wouldn’t enjoy the spectacle of it. This is as close as you’ll get.
ELECTROCHEMISTRY: This is pretty fucking good, though.Kim and Harry are finally moving in together.

Summary
Time has come to wrap a lot of things into a package of secrets, all loaded onto Kim’s shoulders, like the fact that Harry is not the only one who’s had to piece himself back together from scratch, that he’s never been to Martinaise, and that he has spent the first twenty years of his life preparing to leave the only home he’s ever known.
