Wilbur is torn every time one of them asks him over for dinner. Again, he doesn’t want to come across as unfriendly or ungrateful, since he’s always happy to spend time with them, chatting away about nothing and everything from the comfort of one of the swinging chairs on the back porch. But he doesn’t want to be seen as some charity case to them, but rather as an equal, someone who can hold his own without others’ help. And lingering in the back of his mind is a darker worry about the whole situation; that their behaviors are less of a concern over his weight, and more of one prompted by their instincts…
[Or: in a world of predator hybrids, Wilbur is a prey hybrid struggling to earn a living and cope with his looming instincts to boot. As his problems become insurmountable, he finds the help and comfort he needs from those he is closest to.]

Summary
Tommy opens his eyes.
The faint shadow that the outside streetlamp casts into his room has grown sharper around the edges, highlighting his drowsy form and the bed beneath him in stark silhouette. Its usual golden glow is tinged a peculiar orange, like the grinning jack-o-lanterns the neighbors like to carve and leave in front of their picket fences when October rolls around. He keeps his eyes trained on it, not daring to look away. As he watches, it changes further, shifting shade after shade closer to the red xenon light of the radio tower. As if the light of the tower is growing stronger, red eyes glowing insistently in the darkness of the hills.
Or like the source is coming closer.

Techno slammed his fists against the transparent wall of his prison, trying his best to break it down. His captors backed up, whistling anxiously to each other.
He gave the barrier another loud crack, delightedly watching as they scrambled away in abject terror.
Nodding in satisfaction, he turned around to meet the eyes of two other prisoners that had been thrown into his cell.
He froze.
Right.
There were now aliens in his cell.
And he probably just scared the hell out of them.
Or: Humans are a dangerous race feared by all on an intergalactic scale. Techno, a human ex-soldier that was abducted by aliens 18 months ago, is biding his time in captivity.
This changes when two young aliens are sent into his cell to die.

Tommy opened his eyes slowly. There was sun streaming through the window, leaving the ceiling bathed in golden light. The sheets under him were soft and plush, cradling his body comfortably. The one window in the room was slightly open, allowing Tommy to hear birds chirping outside as well as the quiet breeze blowing through the overgrown trees surrounding what Tommy could now tell was his childhood bedroom at his family cottage.
