The simplest way to explain why Alastor was currently, finally, in Vox's bed – as opposed to one in a very expensive hotel – was to say he'd lost a bet.
The slightly more complicated way to explain it would be to elaborate and admit that the bet hadn't even been one he'd been certain he could win – which wasn't a wager he would normally take.
But something about the fervour in Vox's gaze, the way his eyes glinted with excitement over the prospect of what he might get if he won their little game of 'which Overlord will start shit at today's meeting?' had appealed to him. The offer, the way Vox put it out there as though hoping against hope that Alastor would take it – well.
How could a man say 'no' when the only penalty of losing a bet was 'let me tie you down and worship the fuck out of your body'?
