“I’m not going to break a fucking nail.” Steve hissed and elbowed him, like he hadn’t been thinking the same thing as he struggled to wedge one of his shiny red nails into his wallet’s tight leather pockets. When Carol warned him that some things would be harder, she hadn’t mentioned the bizarre anxiety that came with feeling like your hands were made of cracked dinner plates.
Idly, Steve wondered if newly de-clawed cats felt like this. Except he was a re-clawed cat, and the vet had promised him it was only temporary.
He was already losing his mind.

Thankfully, it didn’t take too intensive of a search to track Wilbur down. He was curled up in a corner, hands over his ears, with tears squeezing from his eyes and sending up clouds of steam when they rolled down his cheeks. He’d changed clothes, now in a much more dressed down yellow sweater and jeans. Most worrying of all, though, was his skin; completely greyed over— his hair too— and semi-translucent.
You leave for 6 months and come back to a breakdown, Schlatt thought, frowning despite himself.
He could only think to say, “Holy shit, man, what happened? You look worse than I probably do…”
Wilbur jumped, eyes snapping open to reveal that they’d gone entirely black. He startled back with a yelp, staring up at Schlatt like a frightened animal.
“Who—“ Wilbur demanded, hands cradled to his chest, “Who are you!?”
AKA: Considering what we know about the afterlife in DSMP canon, it is currently possible for Schlatt and Ghostbur to meet in limbo. So I wrote about them meeting in limbo.

Summary
Tommy has never handled storms well.
When he was a child, before Phil found him, he’d huddle between the houses in villages in an attempt to stay dry. It was better, of course, after Phil took him in. He wasn’t wet or hungry or sick anymore, but he’d always been embarrassed of the way the crack of lightning made his breath catch in his throat. Luckily, it never rained in L’manberg. It’s one of the reasons he’d loved it so much. It never rained, no matter who lived and who died, who won and who lost.
And then, Tommy had been exiled, and for the first time in months, Tommy saw rain.
He looks up into the vast expanse of the sky, raindrops dripping down his cheeks and into his ears, and thinks, you’re just as sad as I am, aren’t you?
As pathetic as it is, he sees the sky as a friend of sorts, then.
You see, he could scream his pain into the sky as loud as he wanted, and the sky would keep his secrets till the end of time.
(or, tommy is not okay, physically or mentally.

It’s not like he’s scared of Tommy, alright? Because he’s not. Technoblade isn’t scared of anything, especially not children. He’s just… Not good with kids, is all.
Especially if the kid is someone he’s threatened to kill before. Especially if the kid is his brother’s new ‘best friend.’ Especially if the kid is staring at him, not unlike something out of a horror movie.
This is fine. This is great. He’ll just stay in his room until Tommy leaves. He’s been avoiding Tommy for like… ever. And if he’s not mistaken, he’s pretty sure the kid is avoiding him as well. So really, this should be no problem.

Techno and Phil learn to apologize, Tommy crashes at their place for a few weeks and tries to forgive them with varying levels of success, Quackity is forced to (sorta) get better, and Wilbur really needs a nap.

"In one moment, Tommy is being beaten against an obsidian wall."In the next, he's waking up in his childhood bedroom. There's magic on his tongue, he's in his childhood home, and his family is still dysfunctional but they are at least together. He can prevent their destruction if he can just get past his own grown fears of them. He can do this by himself, it's what is best for them all. He can keep them from breaking apart, keep Wilbur and Tubbo from all the pain they've experienced. Tommy can do this for them, even if he's a little bit cracked now. If they get suspicious, well, what was that play Wilbur mentioned once? Hamlet? Tommy can just do what that guy did.
(Tommy time travels into the past and begins to disguise his traumatic responses as the same kind of Chat Madness his older brother Techno is known for. But madness begets madness, and how far can Tommy go with a lie that begins to bleed at the edges?)

The kid shoots up and he looks scared out of his mind for a second before scowling. “I’m not a fuckin’ kid,” he snaps. Wilbur laughs softly, the kids eyes are blue, they remind him of Phil.
“Right, how can I help you?”
The kids’ bristling demeanor dies down instantly and he looks suddenly much more nervous. The kids posture is shit, Wilbur notices, his shoulders are up and slouched over his chest almost protectively. He starts fidgeting with sleeves of his shirt and he quickly but quietly pulls out a five dollar bill, he slides it across the bar to Wilbur.
“Could I have a- could I get a-“ He pauses, shakes his head and looks up.
“Hamburger and sweet potato fries,” He says it with a confident voice but scared eyes and body language.or phil, techno, and wilbur own a diner and tommy becomes a regular customer. one found family arc later and they adopt him
