Gabriel's mouth flattens. “I want you to take this gods’ blessed opportunity to secure your family’s future for good."
OR
Aziraphale is a professional quest hero who just wants to sit by the fire and read a book, if his overbearing family will ever let him; Crowley is a serpent demon who needs a gullible hero he can con into gathering some critical ingredients for a human corporation spell. Hijinks and a lot of terribly inconvenient feelings ensue.

As all Angels should, Aziraphale loves all of God’s creations, and She had many ones that are easy to love. So, as an immortal, it is impossible to go through existence without feeling the loss of them. The emptiness. There have been a handful of people, animals, even places, that have been lost to time that he has mourned.
But this?
This is a grief that Aziraphale is sure that not even Hell could imagine. A grief that Aziraphale would have believed only came with the feeling of losing one’s Angelic wings in a fall. A grief that he would never experience.

The demon Crawly stood there, defiant, a gaggle of children shoved behind him. "I won't let you take them. I don't care what Heaven thinks."
"Be not afraid," the angel said again, focusing on the children who were, in fact, very, very afraid. His voice was going soft, and he resolutely avoided looking at Crawly. "I come not to harm thee."
OR, Aziraphale fell in love on the Ark. Crowley took a little longer.

A nervous habit, Crowley almost adds.
“I was trying to plan for it,” Aziraphale explains, wringing his hands. “The question. I know it must be uncomfortable –“
“You are talking about the sulfur pit,” Crowley concludes, narrowing his eyes. After Armageddon failed, it’s become a new habit of his. To leave the glasses off once in the bookshop with Aziraphale. The angel had said he liked his eyes, and Crowley had caved in. He points a finger at Aziraphale’s chest, shaking it. “You are talking about Hell – No. You are talking about Falling.”

Summary
Crowley’s expression puts Aziraphale in mind of natural disasters, of wars and kingdoms put to torch, floods and plagues and children drowning. The demon might as well be desolation itself, given blood and bone and a suit to wear, a bleak, yawning absence where there should be a wily, mischievous good nature.
Even the day the world was scheduled to end, when Crowley holed himself up in a little bar and wept himself sick among bottles and bottles of clear spirits, wasn’t as bad as this. Nothing could be as bad as a corpse.
“Crowley!” Aziraphale sobs, pushing himself forward. The barrier is hot against his palms, on the cusp of burning, and still he pushes forward. “I’m right here, Crowley, I’m here! I haven’t left you, sweetheart.”

Summary
A Superhero's work is not for the faint of heart. Although he does not enjoy the bells and whistles that go along with it, Aziraphale knows it is his duty to protect the people of his city. He was given a unique gift, and to ignore that gift would be selfish, no matter how tempting his simple dream of owning a bookshop might seem some days.
It isn't all bad. He has respect. Adoration from thousands of grateful citizens. A steady job with enough money to last him a lifetime. If only he could manage to keep his villain in check. The Serpent is a crafty one - clever and mysterious and somehow manages to wriggle his way out of every bit of trouble he finds himself in. If Aziraphale could find a way to stop him for good, maybe his boss would finally let him retire. If he could stop The Serpent, they wouldn't need him in The Host anymore and Aziraphale could spend his days with his tea and his books and maybe, if he were brave enough, that attractive red-haired man that owns the flower shop just down the road.
All he has to do is figure out the source of his nemesis' powers and the life he's always wanted could finally be his. That shouldn't be too difficult for a hero his caliber.

“Well,” Aziraphale continues, his hands on his knees and still managing to tremble. Crowley wishes he hadn’t noticed that. “It has come to my attention- no, no, that’s not how it is. Crowley, these past years have been- bother! I practised this and now I can’t find any of the words I wanted!“I love you, Crowley."

AKA The Fic That Tumblr Made Me Write. Heaven and Hell share a corporate party once per millennium. This time someone's had the bright idea of issuing a challenge to the demons of Hell. Crowley has no intention of missing the opportunity; Aziraphale's just enough of a bastard to make him work for it.

Summary
Aziraphale has read every book in his shop at least once. He has reread some of his favored volumes dozens of times, has memorized whole great swaths of them. If his own words are insufficient to convince Crowley of his sincerity, then perhaps the words of others can!
(He might have the decency to ask the books what they thought of this plan. The books had been watching the two of them for over a hundred years, and certainly had a great deal to say on the matter. But Aziraphale neglects to consult them, and thus will be very unprepared for what happens next.)
Back on earth, Aziraphale tries to apologize.

Summary
When you’re talking about bodies locked in orbit, forever circling each other, it takes two to tango. Forces opposed; action and reaction. One, and the other.
But the blank-slate version of Aziraphale sleeping beside Crowley in this cold little bed had no fear of Heaven, no fear of Falling. Not even a fear of snakes. He only had, as all humans did, the knowledge of good and bad, and the ability to make a choice.

Crowley must turn Aziraphale human in order to hide him from Heaven.

Angered over the events of the ruined Armageddon, the Archangels Gabriel, Michael, Uriel, and Sandalphon argue over why Aziraphale hasn't Fallen yet.
He is a traitor to all of Heaven and God Herself in their eyes. He has stopped the Great Plan from taking place and has been toeing the line of their rules for centuries, hedonistic and befriending a demon were only a few on the list they held against him. Yet the Almighty is silent on all that's happened… Thus they decide to take matters into their own hands.
However, they may not have the power to make an angel Fall as God does, they do possess powerful miracles, especially when their strength is combined. So in order to teach the wayward Principality a lesson, they simulate what it's like to Fall for Aziraphale so that he may understand what his fate should have been.
Except they fail to inform him of this punishment, thus Aziraphale doesn't know it's not real.

Aziraphale knows he is cracking, struggling to get the Archangels to listen.
They actively silence him, but they cannot silence God. Humans are Her creation, surely She will do something .
The Archangels say She won’t.
Crowley says She won’t.But he holds his course, until a boy makes a choice and Aziraphale decides that even if he will never receive the love he wants so desperately, he will give it freely and without reserve. There have been too many words unspoken for too long. He may not deserve Crowley’s love but he will give the compassionate serpent all that he has held back.
