Summary
Nicolo Genova, or Nicky to his American friends, is just trying to get through his PhD program. He's writing his dissertation on Post-classical homoerotic poetry, but he cannot find anyone who speaks an extinct dialect of Arabic so he can translate a famed love poem by a little known poet, al-Kaysani.
Strangely enough, his friend knows a professor on campus who can translate the poem. What starts as a simple request for assistance on his dissertation blossoms into something that Nicky -- shy, reserved Nicky who abandoned his plans for the priesthood months before ordination -- had never imagined for himself: true love.
What he doesn't know is that Dr. Joseph Jones (his handsome, erudite, kind, lovely Joe) is harboring a secret too large for anyone to believe -- and that secret might just cost them everything.

AAAAAAAAA!!!!! this was so so good i can’t stop thinking about it. the angst, the yearning, the happiness, all of it. it almost felt like i was falling in love too, reading how you wrote their relationship. so tender, so loving. i loved the way joe was written especially - you achieved a great balance of the blasè and weariness of someone that old, and how it all came to a halt when he met nicky. such a beautiful love story between those two. AND THE ENDING!!!!! so well done, we love quynh in this house. this was so beautiful, these versions of the old guard and esp joenicky will stay with me. thank u!!!!

god this was everything. i loved the progression of their relationship and sokka just being a total dork in love. understandable. the little quiet moments between the two of them were so wonderful. i would like to lend my figurative sword to sokka in fighting anyone who doesn’t agree pacific rim is the greatest movie of all time. this story is so cute and so sweet ahhhh i love it!!!!!!

In hindsight, it probably would've been better if Sokka had realised he was in love with Zuko at literally any time before this. Or preferably, never fallen for his best friend in the first place.

oh wow this was amazing. zukka!! i love my oblivious heart eyes idiots!!!!! zuko being fucking terrified of katara is valid and hilarious. this was so good, the miscommunication and angst [chefs kiss] exquisite. everyone was written amazingly, the plot was written amazingly, the pacing of the story was great. the way you can describe feelings and moments made my chest flutter. so so beautiful!!!!

“I’m going to go practice some firebending forms,” Zuko says stiffly, running a hand through the tangles in his hair. “Tell Aang to join me if he wants to once he wakes up.” Gold eyes dart up to where Aang had strung up a makeshift hammock and was still sleeping soundly, snoring like a buffalo yak.
“Alright,” Sokka says, watching as he walks out without another word, evidently having reverted back into his usual brooding self. “Have fun!” He calls after Zuko loudly, which he means to be sarcastic, but comes out painfully, embarrassingly sincere. His face burns, and as soon as Zuko passes out of sight into the the temple, Katara turns to him, leveling him with a Look.
“You like him.” She says, and it’s not a question.

this might be my favorite atla au fic i’ve ever read. WOW. i can’t tell u how happy azula’s characterization and her relationship with zuko makes me. THIS is the azula we deserve and i loved her so so much in this. still sharp, still deadly, but not heartless and certainly not unloving. loyal to her love for her brother and willing to do what’s right. realizing ozai was wrong and actually the worst person in the entire world. i also love that she didn’t start off that way. it was real growth for her. honestly azula and zuko’s banter might have been my favorite part. the marriage conversation when they’re on appa? i was crying it was perfect. and sokka!!! my lil lovestruck boy!!!!!! zukka’s relationship was the right amount of angst and misunderstanding with a great resolution. i also really enjoyed when they were all on the ship and the progression of zuko and hakoda’s relationship. no one can stop him from adopting all wayward children that come into his orbit. and the sokka/azula friendship was everything and i may have cried when they hugged. all the characters were written so well and i loved the plot, it played out amazingly. there was such real, organic growth and progression for all the characters in this and it was amazing to watch them grow to love and care so much for one another. this is the avatar au the world deserves so thank you for writing it

Summary
Sokka receives an offer of an arranged marriage from the Northern Water Tribe. On the one hand, accepting would strengthen ties between their tribes. On the other hand, Chief Arnook has suggested Hahn as a potential match, and Hahn sucks. But with the future of the Southern Water Tribe Reconstruction project relying heavily on the good will of the North, Sokka doesn’t know how to say no.
(Katara doesn’t have to deal with this. Katara is dating the Avatar.)
Zuko has a solution. Sokka just wishes he’d realized he was in love with the Fire Lord before he agreed to pretend to date him.
