It’s been drizzling all day, but as the afternoon slides into evening it starts to really come down, and the florist is glad to have moved the outside plants off their shelves and into the safety of the building. Everything and everyone is safe and is sound. The deluge has washed away the usual nightlife of the busy city, leaving only a few dampened passersby brave enough to pass the storefront. The loud, sharp and heavy weather outside is muted by the thick glass window— smoothed down into soothing brown noise.

When he speaks, the rumble rises from deep in his chest: “Yen?”

Geralt’s pierced heart freezes, and it takes him a heavy, long moment as his blood runs cold through his veins without any added toxicity to get ahold of his suddenly churning emotions. He can just picture Jaskier’s pyre now, and all the bigots who would line up to applaud the demise of a loud-spoken free-spirit. “You can’t perform that.”
