It’s Christmas Eve 1986 and Eddie’s making bad decision after bad decision. He’s drunk, and he’s behind the wheel trying to find an open gas station, and he’s trying real hard not to crash his van even if he’s planned on ending it fifty times in the past week.
He should’ve called Wayne. He should’ve called anyone, really. Not that anyone would have answered this late on Christmas Eve.
Steve Harrington is the last person he expects to see at the gas station.

But how it’s also unavoidable, if you find the person your heart longs for.”
“That’s-” Steve says. Swallows. Wets his lips with his tongue before he tries again. “That sounds wonderful. You’ll need to translate it for me some time.”
Eddie’s eyes flick up, locking on his, and he feels himself blush - a hot, tingling heat that creeps out from under his collar and all the way up to his cheeks.
“I mean … only if you want to, of course. I’d never-”
“I’d love that,” Eddie smiles. “I’ll translate all the words in the song for you, a hundred times over if you want me to. Under one condition.”

“You getting off?” Says the man as he holds the door open.
Eddie rolls his eyes as he straightens to his full height, struggling to force the dampened scarf into one of the pockets of his bag. “Does it look like I’m getting off?” he says as he turns to look at the man who is now annoying him almost as much as the rest of this shit-ass evening already has.
The man is unfairly attractive.
And that pisses Eddie off almost more than anything else about his current situation. Because of fucking COURSE the guy is painfully pretty. And of course Eddie is crossing this guy’s path when his mood is at such a fucking low. How is he meant to be charming for the pretty stranger when he’s feeling so bitchy?
Handsome Stranger casts his eyes along the length of Eddie’s body, smirking slightly as he cocks an eyebrow, his gaze lingering a beat longer than normal at Eddie’s crotch. “Actually, I suppose not.”

“Okay.” That leaves him a bit wary, hoping it isn’t that older alpha who only ever asks for Eddie and Chrissy to help with his phone, and makes sexist comments about how sweet his favorite omegas are.
Squaring his shoulders, Eddie grabs his tea mug and heads out to the front. There, waiting on the carpet politely away from the desk in case someone else arrives with a question, is Max’s mom. Max isn’t with him.

Eddie pulls at the trunk of the Christmas tree, almost falling over as he manages to tip it off the roof of his Jeep and onto the sidewalk with a wobble.
“Woah there! Need a hand?” calls a voice from the other side of the tree.
Eddie pushes a branch out of his face to find an impossibly handsome and shirtless guy holding up his arm as if to grab the tree and assist Eddie’s pathetic attempt at moving it.
“Shit sorry man, did I get you?” Eddie asks breathlessly, trying in vain not to look at the thatch of alarmingly sexy hair on the guy’s chest.
Chesthair laughs, pushing his swooping hair out of his face, “no, you’re good, I’ve got quick reflexes. So, where are we taking this thing?”
This guy clearly isn’t from a big city if he’s so willing to stop whatever the fuck he’s doing wandering around shirtless in December to help a damsel in distress.And they say chivalry is dead.
A newly single Eddie Munson buys a Christmas Tree in December 1999, and is helped by a handsome stranger, Steve Harrington, who’s maybe not a stranger after all.

Summary
Due to an error on a rental website, Eddie and Steve are both booked for the same two weeks in a quaint, remote mountain cabin. Eddie is there to find inspiration for the last installment of his book series. Steve is there to get away from the pressures of a job he hates and his parent’s unwanted attention. The owner, Joyce, ends up convincing them to share the cabin for a discounted price and they decide that it wouldn't be too much of a hardship to share. After all, why should they waste their vacation? It's big enough that they won't even notice the other is there, right?
