He looked over the rim of his glass, eyes immediately landing on Ilya’s laughing face on the other side of the club near the bar. He had his arm slung over Svetlana’s shoulders, her neck comfortably at the bend of his elbow. Shane’s teeth ground together when Ilya used the crook of his arm to pull Svetlana closer, Ilya's head tipping down to place his ear near her mouth.
It was Ilya’s turn to lean in to speak in Svetlana’s ear, a grin spreading over Svetlana’s gorgeous face as she listened to his words.
Shane could vividly imagine what Ilya’s voice would sound like at this point. It would be raspy and rough, like a rumble. He’d heard him sound like that a thousand times and Shane would never be sick of it. It made his chest tight, his heart hammering to think about the way Ilya’s soft lips would brush along his ear. How his tongue would lick up the shell before nipping at the spot under Shane’s ear that made him moan.
But he wasn’t doing any of that. He was talking to Svetlana. His friend.

Ilya and Svetlana share a tiny glance between them: it was safe to say they both thought this guy was odd – who the hell got this amazed by grass? Ilya thought to himself, by then internally answering his own rhetorical question with an edge of snark: boring people, that’s who.
“This… this is a cycad,” Shane says it so quietly, almost like he hadn’t intended to voice his thoughts to the group.
And then, before Ilya can press him on what the hell was so wonderful to have them standing under the billion degree sun, discussing the semantics on a damned leaf, he swears he feels the earth move from under his feet.
It’s followed by a long, drawn out rumbling like something really insanely big had groaned, sounding off like a foghorn – and when Ilya lifts his head to follow the noise, it’s him that feels like he’s about to keel over and pass the hell out.
Standing in the distance, some three hundred feet away, standing tall amongst the perfect skyline is what Ilya knows through basic understanding, is a brachiosaurus.

They instead find a team who are ready to fight the world for each other and a found family that has far reaching threads.

He catches Sasha’s eye from across the locker room, and then they’re in the same toilet stall, noises bitten away before they become dangerous. Svetlana invites him over when her father is away, and he kisses her on top of her quilted bedspread, hard from the feel of her under his hands and, a little bit, from the anticipation of the beating he’ll get if the Minister walks in on him. She scratches her fingers through his hair afterwards and he traces letters into the skin above her knee.
So when he gets the impulse to buy Hollander flowers, he doesn’t hesitate. Maybe it’s because Hollander is so cute with his little freckles. Maybe because he gets irritated so easily, that flush spilling down his collarbones to his chest. Maybe Ilya just wants to reward him for opening the door after that CCM shoot, or for letting Ilya suck his dick after the All-Stars even with Scott Hunter next door.
