Summary
At a mere thirteen years old, Jayce Talis was the youngest victor the Capitol had seen yet. Through hiding and praying, stealing and apologizing and praying again, he won the 20th games through sheer luck and flawless Talis steel, bringing glory to District 2.
Four years later, during the 24th games, he finds himself thrust back into the luminous but dangerous world of the Capitol, mentoring a tribute alongside Academy students. When a scrawny boy from District 3 is named as his tribute, Jayce does not anticipate much, envisioning a bloody and horrific game that swallows the boy up for dinner.
What he does not expect is for the boy to have victory written in his name. What he does not expect is for the boy to bring something revolutionary to him, something that could change all of Piltover.
But whether for better or for worse, Jayce does not know. All he knows is that through starvation or seduction, blood or blazes, he will do whatever it takes to survive. Again.

Summary
How can he do anything but believe them whole-heartedly when they cup his face and tell him words so amazing and incredible that his heart sings in his ribcage? How can he be expected to not obey the people that raised him from a mere son of a blacksmith to a prophet among the people; someone who saw things no one else saw and was miles ahead of his time? So when there’s a whisper in his ear, as thick and sweet as honey, that he is perfect, and got so far as he has because he was always steadfast and loyal to this idea of perfection, it has to be true - especially considering he worked the entire miserable 32 years of life to hear those delicious words.
It has to be, because he is nothing without that strong, steady ideal of perfection that serves as the foundation to everything he’s created, everything he is, and everything he must be.

Sometimes Patrick is so perfect Art wants to strangle the perfection out of him as if it was juice from a lemon. It makes something – stormy and furious – toil in his stomach, rotting like a spoiled fruit.
He should be grateful. He should be over the moon Patrick’s his friend. But he’s not. And because Patrick is a master of everything, he manipulates gravity to his will and uses it to weigh Art down. Art could have a whole fruit bowl of opportunities, juicy and sweet, on his plate; but with Patrick binding his hands and covering his mouth he will never get to devour them.

Summary
“I can’t…I can’t let you do that,” Jayce slurs as he grips that strange, mutated hammer, and through Salo’s eyes, Viktor watches Jayce sway, sees him flinch and then his entire form seems to glitch right before he collapses, falling to the ground with a damning thud.
Panic, foreign to him these days and strong, cuts through his body and he sees Sky turn to him with a startled look on her face out of the corner of his eye.
“Salo,” Viktor says, ignoring her questioning look. “Put the canister down and bring Jayce to me.”
Jayce, sick with infection from the wound on his leg, passes out before he can kill Salo. In this timeline, Viktor takes Jayce in. In this timeline, Jayce needs Viktor to survive.

Summary
He might be sick. There are days when he can barely stomach walking down the street. Too many children. Too many animals. Too many ways for his mind to invent pain. He keeps his eyes on the ground and sinks into himself until he's past the bridge and down in Zaun where he feels only marginally better because half the people there are no doubt sicker than him, and the other half are too consumed with themselves to try and read his thoughts.
That's another fear of his, that someone could look into his eyes and see what depravities lie beneath them.

Jayce leaves his balcony open.

Viktor crowds him against the desk, forcing the back of his thighs into the edge. Jayce's other hand instinctively raises to Viktor’s torso to try and maintain some degree of separation, feeling the gentle rumble of his machinery under his shirt.
“That’s very presumptuous of you, Defender.”
Jayce's breath hitches as light pressure is applied to his jaw, tilted up to look directly at Viktor, the few inches of height he has on Jayce now only magnified. He’s so close that he can hear the soft electrical hum always present in Viktor's body, detect the metallic scent that's grown bittersweetly familiar over time.
