Tashi not saying she loves him back has always been something that’s lingered in the air between them, but they’ve never really spoken about it. True to his word, Art has never made it an issue, but even so, part of her has felt guilty for not saying it. But how could she? She’s thought about it for years–even wanted to say it. But every time she’s tried to, it just hasn’t come out, and so she’s let it rest. The one thing she’s truly ever loved was something she never hesitated to talk about. She’d told anyone and everyone who would listen how much she loved tennis, and then when that had been so tragically taken away from her, how could she possibly think of saying she loved anything else? Tashi tells Lily she loves her, but that’s her daughter. Art? That’s different, and the thought of trying to tell him so makes her heart race and her stomach churn.
Or: Four times that Art has told Tashi he loves her, and she hasn't said it back. Until now.

The unrelenting scent of coffee is what causes her consciousness to stir, and in her half-awake state, she briefly acknowledges how unsurprising it is that her caffeine addiction is what wakes her up rather than her natural circadian rhythm. Reaching out a hand to the space beside her, she touches nothing but cool, empty sheets.

Scrambling to the ledge to pick up the forgotten letter, Kate quickly shuffled through the various parchments before finding the one which said “Dear Kathani Sharma, I am pleased to inform you that you have been chosen for the position of Head Girl for your seventh and final year at Hogwarts…”
Turning back to her family in disbelief, Kate exclaimed in delight, “I’m going to be Head Girl!”
“Oh but who does it say is going to be Head Boy next to you, Didi?” asked Edwina, bending around her mother to grab the parchment in Kate’s hand, squealing “Oh!”
“Edwina?” questioned her mother, still holding onto Kate’s hands and smiling into her step-daughters faced with unshed tears of joy.
“You’re going to love this Didi, the Head Boy this year is none other than everyone’s favourite rake with a capital R - Anthony Bridgerton!”
