Summary
As a broke architecture student, Kaveh finds himself working in a slightly shady flower shop in the heart of Sumeru City. It's a job that helps him pay his bills and lends him plenty of time to study when he's not actively dealing with the clients.
He's not quite sure what it is, but something changes on one particular Wednesday, when a black bike parks next to the shop he works in.“Your partner must be incredibly fortunate to have you by their side. Um. There you go, your total is fifteen thousand.”
The guy nods, gently folding the note into four and placing it inside one of the multiple pockets of his jacket. Kaveh wonders if he wears this thing all year long. The sound of simple plastic wrap being picked up is too loud in the small shop. The grey-haired man looks at the bouquet for almost a minute, counts out Mora—Kaveh expects an exit with no ‘Goodbyes,’ just like on the other two visits.
Teal eyes shift from the bouquet to Kaveh’s badge for a second, and that’s when he’s addressed again.
“Good day, Kaveh.”

Summary
Alhaitham, and Kaveh, and one of the happiest days in their lives
“Five years, ten years, twenty years down the line— nothing will change for me. I’ll still feel the same.”
“You’re such a child,” Kaveh scoffs, a phrase that’s always on the tip of his tongue when Alhaitham and he talk, but a timid smile makes its way back on his lips nevertheless.
“And still, you’re here,” Alhaitham says gently, his hands firm on Kaveh’s hips.
“And still, I’m here,” Kaveh admits.

Summary
After suffering through a nearly-fatal car accident, Alhaitham abandons his life in Sumeru City and moves to Port Ormos. New job, new people, new experiences—all of it ambushes him as soon as he disembarks the ferry, and Alhaitham can only hope that he finds his peace soon.
Those hopes, however, melt the second he meets the chef at his new job as a fine-dining restaurant manager. He recognizes the man he had a one-night stand with just yesterday, and instantly knows: it won't be an easy ride.
Kaveh watched him with a heavy stare. The air was constricting. Alhaitham walked to the door: so, there was a banquet the next day, and fast food chains never hosted those, so he needed to figure out the protocol of action, and…
“If anyone finds out about last night, I’ll serve you for tomorrow’s banquet as a main dish. Just saying,” Kaveh’s voice came from behind Alhaitham’s back, sweet, syrupy, the annoying, but not-so-annoying when it came from Kaveh Port Ormos’s accent and all.

Summary
After an argument with Kaveh, Alhaitham wakes up and finds himself in a universe similar to his own, except for one detail: his and Kaveh’s places in life here have been swapped. He is now the Master Architect, while Kaveh became the Grand Scribe. He has a week to realize what went wrong and to go back to his universe.
“Oh for the love of Archons,” Kaveh hissed in response. “Shoo! Don’t bring your self-centered attitude into my line of work. Individualism may serve you right in the noble field of architecture, but my work is to help people. Don’t you know kids? She’ll find a way to bypass the Akademiya official procedures; I’m just making sure that if she goes, she gets the same protection and comfort as other students! Why are you so worked up about it? Stop teaching me how to do my damn job!”

Summary
The news of the Akademiya's Acting Grand Sage murder devastated the nation of Sumeru as a whole, but, arguably, no one was as affected by the loss as Kaveh was. For him, it's not the Acting Grand Sage who died. It's Alhaitham.
Alhaitham's dead, and all Kaveh can do now is look at the missed opportunities. Alhaitham's dead, and Kaveh has to live with the knowledge that his junior died thinking they were just accidental roommates. Alhaitham's dead.
Nothing can be done now. Right?
...Right?
Would a day come when Kaveh would stop searching for a reason as to why everything had ended the way it did? Maybe it would. Was it really any easier to think that there was a set of measures that could have been taken to prevent this outcome? Was it easier to believe that Alhaitham made a miscalculation, that there was an inherent aspect of control and responsibility on his part, than to accept things as they were?
The human body is fragile. Alhaitham is…was only a human. Meaning a snap of fingers could shut down the little world he carried inside him.

Summary
With a cheerful beep, Mehrak releases the claymore, letting it clatter harmlessly to the floor.
Neither of them speaks.
Alhaitham stands motionless at the edge of the bed, eyes still fixed on the fallen weapon. Above them, Mehrak hums contentedly, hovering like nothing had happened.
“Explain,” Alhaitham demands.
Kaveh has recently moved back in, but the relationship between him and Alhaitham is still strained. When he overworks himself and falls ill, it's up to Mehrak to defend his master against the evil Alhaitham.

Establishing Through Empirical Means the Validity of a Rumor by alexisoak

Summary
News reaches him in a hushed murmur, muttered into errant ears, lips hidden behind ink-stained hands.
Alhaitham drowns them out, the majority of rumors that circulate the halls of the Akademiya, but something about this one catches his attention, bypasses his earpieces, stutters his steps. It’s a name: bitter and familiar, like coffee that scalds the tongue and invigorates the mind. Kaveh, they whisper.
Well, why listen to a rumor without verifying the validity yourself?

Summary
A fundamental shift occurs; Alhaitham isn’t sure of its timeline—sometime vaguely in the weeks after Kaveh’s graveyard visit—nor the exact reason for it. Perhaps it's related to the volume increase of Kaveh’s smiles, or the way he’s taken to tucking some of the flowers behind Alhaitham’s ear when he dozes off reading, or a decrease in that bitter undercurrent behind their arguments.
All Alhaitham knows is something is happening that he has little familiarity with, and the unease that’s come along with it is just as startling as the problem itself:
He’s losing control.

Summary
When Kaveh discovers that Alhaitham has been reading a book about human sexuality and kinks, he generously offers to assist Alhaitham with some sexual exploration. It’s a risky proposal, and one that could end very badly—thanks to their falling-out years ago, the two of them have trust issues galore.
But it turns out that Kaveh and Alhaitham are surprisingly good at trust and communication when it comes to sex…which raises some questions about the nature of their relationship, and where exactly this whole experiment is leading them.
“Look,” Kaveh says, “if you’re going to approach sexual pleasure like an experiment, most potential partners won’t take too kindly to the idea of you having sex with them for science. Therefore, to spare all the poor people you’d inevitably insult in your quest for data, I am willing to be that person.”
“How charitable of you,” Alhaitham says.
“And I assume that you’re somewhat comfortable with the idea of having sex with me,” Kaveh adds, “or else you wouldn’t have been so willing to have my fingers in your mouth just now.”

Summary
Late at night, when he's drifting off to sleep, Alhaitham sometimes wonders what Grandmother would think.
She never knew of his Eleazar. During her final months, he came down with a fever. He saw a doctor not because he felt all that unwell, but because he was her sole caregiver and he didn't want to give her an infection.
The diagnosis shocked him, but it made sense in hindsight. The muscle aches and tremors that he had chalked up to stress then painted a different picture. And over the coming weeks, a patch of skin on his chest developed the signature scaling.
There was no point in telling Grandmother. It would have distressed her greatly, and there was nothing she could have done to change anything. She died as peacefully as it is possible to die, as she deserved, and he mourned her and the future he'd imagined for himself.
