That, paired with being ridiculously short on cash due to said invasion, leads them to find more lucrative forms of business in the form of a mental health chat line. It works out perfectly for a while, until one person seems to have issues that hit a little bit too close to home.

Raph shoves Donnie and frowns. “Wait, new favourite-“
“Hold up!” Mikey whisper-screams, stopping Raph and Donnie’s light rough-housing. “Grandson? Why do you think he’s your grandson?”
Raph and Donnie freeze, both also turning to Splinter. The rat mutant frowns.
“Why wouldn’t I?”
“Wha- why would you?!” Mikey demands.

So they know Casey is someone’s son… but who? Definitely not Leo’s, he’s not flashy enough, and their brother shouldn’t be bothered with this new drama while he’s recovering. So they’ll just have to work it out without him!
And while they do that…
Leo will just keep watching Casey splinter apart.

"That's it!" Donnie raised his arm and pushed a few buttons on the screen on his arm. Something shot out towards Mikey at lightning speed. Tying him up. "No more games draxum lover. What do you want?"

"Mikey-" The name on Donnies tongue sounded sharp. "Why did you abandon us?" His eyes glared at him intensely. Raph sadly glanced between them all.
Dark Orange opened his mouth to answer. But Leo's hand squeezed his shoulders tightly. "Don't talk to Mikey like that." He snarled. "He didn't want to run away. And he certainly wasn't abandoning you guys."
"But he did, and so did you." Donnies voice snapped. His eyes flicked between Leo and Dark Orange quickly.

Ever since the Kraang invasion, he'd been trying to step up as team leader. Setting training times, keeping up with villians, even learning about.. eugh.. Donnie's science stuff.
He had two years of lost time to make up for, and a whole lot of trust to regain. This mission was step one.
Raph had caught something nasty, so he was directing Donnie and Mikey on his own. Luckily, this was the perfect mission for it. A simple in-and-out steal ordeal. Low stakes.
Big Mama was hosting a masquerade ball slash unveiling of her new project, which would obviously be nefarious. Donnie was slipping into her office to check for any internal documents they could sabotage, Mikey was monitoring the perimeter to see what villians were attending, and Leo had the easy job. Watching, listening, and chatting with as many highbrow looking guests as possible for potential secrets. All they had to do was not get caught.
