“What’s it like?” Touya says. Sudden, unbidden, impossible to take back. He clears his throat. “Going to UA.” Touya can’t look when he says it. He stares off in the opposite direction like the wooden beams and window panes of the house are fascinating.
“It’s the best,” Shouto says at last. “I love the dorms. My friends are always there, and class is challenging, but in a good way—well, it’s really thanks to Aizawa-sensei.” His voice is still low and melodic like it always is, but an edge of childlike excitement seeps into it.
Touya turns to look at him, and Shouto’s whole face is lit up. It fills Touya with bittersweet fondness. He’s glad Shouto likes it there.
“Sounds fun.” Touya looks down, blinks at his own clenched hands when he realizes he isn’t lying.

“I’m not here because of…” Hawks cut himself off, moving the IV tube to the side and stepping to the right. “I’m not- you know I’m not—”
“I know.” He opened an eye. “I know that.”
By some divine punishment, Touya survived the war and had Hawks appointed by the HPSC to keep an eye on him. They don't talk about it. At least, they try not to.

Touya’s bare hips cant weakly over the already slick toe of Hawks’s combat boot at the same time a line of drool dribbles over her bottom lip. Hawks’s eyes flash in the low light like a predator’s, flitting to her mouth and back again. Her feathers shake over her shoulders. “Is that the best you can do?”
“No ma’am,” Touya whispers, expression pinching when Hawks’s grip tightens warningly at the back of her head. She whimpers faintly, clears her throat, and speaks again, louder and more clearly: “No, ma’am.”
“Then prove it."
