It’s a pretty normal Tuesday evening, all things considered. At least until Liam gets home from lacrosse practice to find a half-dead chimera bleeding out on his bedroom carpet.

"Liam’s never really said this out loud, but by the time Scott turned him, he’d already felt like a monster for years. He looked in the mirror with glowing eyes and jagged fangs and saw something he'd believed was already there - something vicious and ugly and capable only of violence.
You're not a monster. You're like me, Scott told him, and he'd meant the werewolf thing, but Liam had heard something else: that, like Scott, he was capable of choosing gentleness, kindness, forgiveness. Even if it sometimes felt like he wasn't."

Han Sooyoung tilted her head. “You’re mad I called you pretty…? No, wait- you...”
He felt his ears warm.
Annoyance forgotten, a disbelieving grin slid onto her face.
“No way. You liked that, huh?” She tilted his head down by the chin. “Pretty bastard?” Han Sooyoung giggled.
Yoo Joonghyuk looked over her shoulder resolutely, trying to remember how to breathe.

"Anne has told her some of his predilections: his desire to be tied, sometimes, and his fondness for her finger in his ass. But Anne hasn’t spoken much about the intimacies they shared, how much in the way she touches and kisses and fucks bears Jack’s imprint — maybe she doesn’t even know, doesn’t remember what was innate and what she learned along the way. How much Jack, in turn, rearranged himself to fit her.
Max wonders if he would look at her the way he looked at Anne. Or if fucking him would be like fucking her own reflection.
If, in his black eyes, she’d see a shadow self."

"Jana felt a rush of tenderness and affection. 'It’s yours,' she said, breathless.
Jindriska didn't hesitate. She knelt down and held the deer still, even as its struggling body grew weaker; she took her knife, and in a swift, unflinching movement, slit its throat.
It was wonderful. Blood erupted from the wound, gushing like a spring, as the last death throes erupted violently. The deer made a sound of dying that only hunters and God might ever know, in relief and release, as its panicked, frightened eyes grew blank and quiet; the blood poured and poured, black in the moonlight and staining Jindriska’s hands."

Summary
Nathan rolls his eyes. A smile plays across his face and before Duke can ask what the joke is, he finds himself tugged forward by the belt loops. Suddenly, Nathan’s barely a breath away from him.
For a second, Duke’s brain stops working entirely. When it catches up, a dozen possibilities hit him all at once. A prank? A trouble? Another shapeshifter? The start to a really weird, really intimate fistfight? Hell, maybe he’s still at the Gull, passed out over the counter, having an extremely vivid dream. But Nathan feels real—as real as he did a decade ago, before the fight that tore them apart.
(or: Duke finds out the hard way that a past with Nathan could mean a future without Audrey.)

“Duke knows fear. Fear carved out the direction of his life like a river through a canyon—sure and winding and deep. Duke’s faced fears and he’s run from them, but never in his life has he known a chill quite like this. The thing that sounds like Audrey but isn’t, the photocopy town that catches the smallest of details but somehow misprints the important parts, the house that isn’t a house at all but instead a mouth, a hunger, a yawning emptiness.
‘Don’t you remember?’ They ask him in unison. ‘This is the life you wanted.’”

“Half of her is snarling with rage, hackles up, crushing close to her and guarding jealously the love she has waited her whole life to feel and now finally does, not just for Duke and Nathan--but oh, so much, so very much for her kind, strong, sweet boys--but for everyone, this whole damn town, for Vince and Dave and their secrets and Maggie and her dignity and Laverne and her warmth and Tater and Jess Minion and Bobby and Maryanne and every single person who has a hidden Trouble or a weird little antique shop or coaches a peewee sports team or leaves passive-aggressive notes on tourists' cars.
The other half is letting go.
That's the thing about love. It gives itself away. You don't get a choice about that part.”

The bear does not follow Marcus home. Once he caught it trying to mosey onto the El with him - a fucking three hundred pound grizzly, moving like a raccoon, skulking in the shadows almost all the way to the stop. He said, "No way, man," and the bear whuffed, huge, rank, rotten-salmon breath slamming into him like one of those guys at Wake Forest, and he thought, okay, okay, maybe this, maybe now, with those great claws in his shoulders, with those enormous teeth pressed up against his cheek.

Summary
Spike and Jet never put a name to what they are doing together, and they both prefer it that way. They’re two people on a spaceship trying to make a living. It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than that.
Then the dog shows up. Then Faye. Then Ed.
“I don’t understand you, Spike.”
Jet’s face is serious, his gaze somber, and Spike decides he really doesn’t like it. He tosses the bloody gauze aside and finally puts his hands on Jet’s hips like he has wanted to this whole time and pulls Jet in close. “I’ll tell you a secret,” Spike says, flicking his gaze from Jet’s eyes to his mouth and back again; “I don’t, either.”

“Memory is like a kaleidoscope, like looking at Phobos while standing on Deimos and holding up your thumb to cover the other tiny moon in its entirety but it’s still there. Close one eye and it’s still there. Parallax, they call that, or don’t they?
Spike remembers the weight of a gun but not whether he ever pulled the trigger. He remembers sighting down his opponent, one eye—his left eye—squeezed shut, his right eye staring into the past, into a dream, and seeing not truth but mimicry. Who had looked back at him then? He doesn’t remember.”

“‘This life,’ says Nate. ‘I never resented it because I was just doing what had to be done to save the world. I was raised for it.’
‘Sure,’ says Rachel. ‘Saving the world is a better reason to get out of bed in the morning than most people have.’
‘Yeah,’ says Cable. ‘And then I was holding Hope in my arms and I realized I was going to have to raise her the same way. Scared the shit out of me, to know she wasn’t going to get to be a kid, not really. And that I could try to do right by her but I couldn’t keep her from becoming a weapon because it was me or somebody else.’”

“She didn’t think this was something she would do forever, maybe, but the prospect of having something small and entirely hers had appealed to her last year. If she could manage one shop, then she could at least manage the rest of her life into something less complicated, right? At this smaller scale, things should have been easier to control. For a while, her biggest problems had been balancing her inventory and figuring out names for the menu. Both of those were easily preferable to surprise multi-consciousness godhood.”

Harvey sat with a stubborn jaw, and looked out the window. Mike turned away, fuming, so angry it didn't mollify him when a minute or two later Harvey pulled on his seatbelt. Ray never said a word. He kept on driving. It was another hour before they would get to Victor Grand's house, and try to argue him out of disinheriting his granddaughter.”

Bookmarker's Notes
“The evening light illuminates dust floating in the air. It's strange to see the unit so bare; this must have been what it looked like before Teru was even born. He takes it all in: the balcony where the Claw members broke in, the kitchen that barely ever held any food, the closet where he'd stored his emergency bag until the day he'd moved out.
That's where he sits, on the floor beside the closet. The apartment rings with silence, eery, like a tomb. Teru is used to it; turning on the television or playing music always felt like a farce. At least you had a home. And that's what he's always saying to himself—at least, luckily, fortunately.“

Summary
“Do you remember,” Megumi asks, “when Gojo-san told us love is a curse?”
Tsumiki hums in affirmation. “I told him that was stupid, because love is good, and good things don’t hurt people like curses do.” She looks over at Megumi, their gazes finally meeting. “But you’ve always agreed with him.”
Of course Megumi agreed with him. He spent more time with Gojo than Tsumiki did, and he saw the scars love left on his soul. He met countless sorcerers in a perpetual state of mourning for the classmates and colleagues they’d lost. He lost Tsumiki once and vowed to destroy the world if it meant getting her back; then he lost Tsumiki a second time and consequently destroyed himself.
with both of their bodies overtaken, megumi and tsumiki find themselves in the same place, awaiting the end.

“An African penguin can hold its breath for up to five minutes, or at least that’s what research has determined. King penguins have been documented holding their breath for up to eight minutes while chinstrap penguins generally max out at three. Emperor penguins can hold their breath longest of all penguin species, with dives lasting up to twenty-seven minutes.
How long has it been since Megumi was in control of his own body? Three minutes? Five? Eight?
How long has it been since Tsumiki was in control of hers?
… How long can a soul hold its breath?”

"Her hands freeze in midair, halfway through an attack, as she stares at Zuko. And Zuko stares back, because there’s no way that he would ever mistake that face for anyone else. It’s practically Zuko’s face, after all; practically their mother’s.
The air hangs still between them. Azula’s eyes are wide, and Zuko knows that they must be perfect mirrors of one another. Zuko’s heart is in his throat. It feels like the bottom has fallen out of the world, and he’s floating, floating - or falling and waiting to hit the ground."

"The hard thing about losing your parents at twenty-two is that there’s no one to tell you how to be an adult, nobody to call when you need to know how to organize your bills, or feed yourself and the new roommates you never expected to have. But then, just when you think you’re on your own for good, you find them again in strange places, like the margins of a yellowed cookbook from the 1970s."
