Summary
Seeing it in person makes my throat tighten.
I’m glad I’m alone. I can’t control the slight tremble in my hand and I’m not sure if it’s fear or grief, but there's something bubbling under my chest.
Grace died over a decade ago. I killed him. I know that.
I’ve had 26 years to sit alone in a cell with that. That and every other outcome.
But for some reason instead of touching the beetle I’m frozen wondering if perhaps Grace had touched it too.

TLDR: Stratt goes through the logs from the beetles and has to save the world. A bit of a shock to her.

'Professor Snape,'
Potter slid his gaze from the heinous smoking sludge in the cauldron in front of him. I should have lectured him for whatever crimes he committed during what should have been a simple brewing process, I even had it in mind to revoke points from his house. But in a usual stroke of luck for Potter, I became distracted.
More than distracted; lost. It was painfully brief, yet completely unmistakable.
Those were Lily's eyes.
I found myself staring, my previous thought beyond recovery. The same evergreen ring circling a soft, bright center caused my whole being to take hold of a warm, peaceful grief. I didn't even have it in me to be annoyed that I was no longer cross with the boy. And if I had any sense at all, I would've held back from saying what felt so right to say next.
'Please, call me Severus.'

“Nope–no you have to keep the pressure on that, Colt–” Jody grabbed his hand, guided it back upward, glancing over his shoulder to see what he was looking at.
There wasn’t anything of note behind him, just the pavement and a laughing couple stumbling their way around the corner.
Was he concussed?
“I’m not Colt,” Colt said, interrupting Jody’s thoughts. He cocked his head to the side, frowned, tried to lower his hand for the third time like he’d already forgotten what he was supposed to be doing. “I’m trying–I need to find Colt. M’not him.”
Oh, yeah, he was definitely fucking concussed.
(Ryland is concussed, Colt is framed for murder and concussed, and Jody is definitively lost in all the sauce because someone forgot to tell her that Colt has a twin brother.)

On the journey to Erid, Grace and Rocky discuss their respective alien biologies and Rocky learns that a lot of humans don't make it to the average 80 year life expectancy.
Years later, it looks like Rocky is going to learn that lesson again in a more personal way, but not if he has anything to say about it.
Feat: Grace being susceptible to medical misconceptions aka being a little dumb about human medical science (he’s not that kind of doctor, okay?), old man Grace ignoring pain and injury because he’s used to it, worried Rocky, and a peek at daily life on Erid

Rocky. I can’t put this all on the guy right now. He should be happy. We are going to Erid. We are going to save his planet.
“CBC. A complete blood count.” I answer, hoping he doesn’t ask me why.
“Purpose, question?”
Rocky, please. I’m trying to spare you right now.
Basically, Grace gets exposed to a dangerous amount of radiation during an EVA and doesn't want to tell Rocky bc of what happened to Rocky's crew <3
THIS IS A REWORKED VERSION OF "TEMPEST" - after some comments, I wanted to keep the soul of the story, but make it more scientifically plausible. While there are still probably some inaccuracies, I still hope this isn't as messy as before.
